Family gathered together on Christmas Day for the blessing of Ellie’s Farm.

With grateful hearts, we thank Father Elias for blessing the farm and entrusting them to God’s loving care, praying for His continued grace and fruitful harvests.

🐣 How to Take Care of Native Chicks 🐥

1. Housing / Brooder
• Keep them in a clean, dry, and safe brooder (a small enclosure or box).
• Use rice hull, wood shavings, or old sacks as flooring (change regularly).
• Protect from predators (cats, rats, snakes).
• Make sure the brooder has proper ventilation but no strong drafts.

2. Temperature & Warmth
• First week: keep them warm (about 32–35°C).
• Use a light bulb or heat lamp as a brooder heater.
• Lower the temperature by about 2–3°C each week until they are feathered (around 4–6 weeks old).
• If chicks are huddling together → too cold.
• If they’re scattered far from heat → too hot.
• If they’re spread comfortably → just right.

3. Feeding
• First week: Give starter feeds (high protein, 18–20%).
• Provide feeds in shallow trays or feeders (so they can easily peck).
• Do not give rice alone – it lacks nutrients for growth.
• Always give clean drinking water with vitamins/electrolytes (especially in the first 7 days).

4. Health
• Clean waterers and feeders daily.
• Give vitamins and anti-stress supplements in water.
• Practice biosecurity: keep the area clean, don’t let visitors handle chicks often.
• Vaccination is recommended (ex. Newcastle disease, fowl pox).

5. Growth Stage Care
• At 4–6 weeks: Transfer them to a grower pen (more space).
• Provide perches and let them roam (if free-range).
• Slowly switch to grower feeds.
