Growing up watching It’s Showtime, akala natin it was just a noontime show made for laughs and good vibes. Pero habang tumatagal, mas naging obvious na hindi lang entertainment ang kaya nitong ibigay. In a country where even basic survival is affected by politics, paano magiging “hindi political” ang buhay ng Pilipino? Everything is political when people are struggling just to live comfortably. Minsan, jokes become the most Filipino way to enlighten people because truth becomes easier to accept when it comes with humor instead of fear.

Kaya when Vice Ganda speaks up about injustice, corruption, and failed promises, may dahilan kung bakit maraming tao ang nakaka-relate. Hindi lang siya comedian or host; isa rin siyang taxpayer, public figure, at taong ginagamit ang platform niya para magsalita tungkol sa realidad ng masa. “The law no longer protects us. Equality and justice only prevail to those who are associated with power.” Hindi lang iyon quote para mag trending, kundi reflection ng frustrations ng maraming Pilipino today. Their courage proves that public platforms should not only entertain people, but also remind them to stay aware.

Sabi ng iba masyado nang political ang Showtime, at hindi raw dapat gawing katatawanan ang mga nangyayari sa gobyerno o Senado. Pero maybe the real problem is when people stop talking at all. Because watching It’s Showtime through the years showed us the reality of Filipino life, people who need help, people trying to survive, and people still choosing to smile despite everything. Hindi lang tawa ang hinahanap ng masa sa noontime shows, minsan validation din na may nakakaintindi sa pinagdadaanan nila. Walang Pilipinong dapat inuuto ng ayuda at paulit-ulit na bulok na pangako, especially when people deserve genuine service, dignity, and accountability from those in power.
