“Ka-Mangyanan mo mandin.”
I’d hear that a lot in Mindoro whenever I asked about something I wasn’t familiar with.

That was the first time I saw taro, or gabi, harvested straight from the earth, not from a palengke.

The Mangyan farmers pulled it from the soil with quiet pride, hands moving in rhythm with the land.

These days, taro gives my taste buds a different kind of satisfaction. Not a loud flavor, but subtle and steady, the kind that rewards patience and people with refined taste.

Our Ube Taro Pinipig Pie was made for that kind of palate, grounded, humble, and deeply Filipino.

In hindsight, it’s almost ironic. The line “Ka-Mangyanan mo mandin” was meant to tease me for not knowing something, yet the Mangyans themselves have always known the land best. 🌿💜
