IN PHOTOS: The coconut industry in Rosario, Batangas takes a significant step toward growth and development as the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) South Luzon gives the green light to a big-ticket coconut oil mill subproject in the area.
Designed as a local processing hub for high-value crude coconut oil (CNO) and copra cake for animal feed, the coconut oil mill enterprise is expected to consolidate copra from at least 1,207 coconut farmers, boost overall copra production in Batangas, and increase farmers’ average annual income per hectare. With a total project cost of Php 108,322,354.81, the enterprise is targeted for completion by 2027.
To officially commence the subproject, DA-PRDP South Luzon Deputy Project Director Emerson Yago awarded No Objection Letter 1 (NOL 1) to the AgriCare Multipurpose Cooperative, the subproject proponent, and the Palacpac Malinao San Nicolas Calantas Multipurpose Cooperative. With the issuance of NOL 1, procurement activities for the subproject may now begin.
“Malugod po kaming natutuwa na nabigyang katuparan itong aming proyekto. We will make sure na patuloy kaming magco-comply sa requirements at standards ng PRDP,” shared Luinito Caguimbal, chairperson of the AgriCare Multipurpose Cooperative.
“Sana po ay maging sustainable ito at marami pang matulungang miyembro, magsasaka, o magbubukid sa lugar. Of course, ito po ay simula pa lamang, marami pa po tayong gagawin at pagtutulung-tulungan, so sana maging efficient and effective, at mas maging maganda ang kolaborasyon, koordinasyon, at convergence natin patungkol dito sa proyekto,” said DPD Yago.
After the awarding, the DA-PRDP Regional Project Coordination Office CALABARZON facilitated the signing of the Implementation and Management Agreement between the local government of Rosario and the AgriCare Multipurpose Cooperative. The agreement details the procurement and implementation arrangements, schedule of fund releases, liquidation procedures, and operations and maintenance for the subproject. The DA-PRDP CALABARZON team also began coaching the cooperative on the procurement activities related to the subproject.
The awarding ceremony was also attended by Engr. Christian Paul Ariola, DA-PRDP CALABARZON I-BUILD Component Head, Mr. Joel Angeles, DA-PRDP South Luzon I-REAP Component Head, Mr. Ruel Gutierrez, chairperson of the Palacpac Malinao San Nicolas Calantas Multipurpose Cooperative, and Mr. Nhel Welson Mandigma of the Rosario local government. #
