Not all labor is seen.

Many begin before sunrise, when the waters are still dark and uncertain. Fisherfolk go out with no guarantees, facing rising fuel costs, smaller catches, and unpredictable weather, yet they continue because families are waiting at home.

They are not just rowing paddles or starting engines. They are helping keep a nation afloat.

Across every industry, workers carry the weight that keeps operations moving, ensuring there is always something to deliver, serve, and sustain.

But the same hands that bring food to our tables are often the ones struggling to secure their own. Those who keep industries alive are often asked to endure the most, with limited protection, delayed benefits, and uncertain welfare.

This should not be normalized.

Labor deserves more than a single day of recognition. It deserves fair compensation, proper benefits, and dignity. If the people are the ones keeping your boat afloat, they deserve more than the command to keep rowing. They deserve to be taken care of.

This Labor Day, MINDANAW Seafood stands in solidarity with the movement for labor justice. While we honor the hard work of every Filipino, we especially echo the calls of our fisherfolk and the workforce fighting for fair rights.

For too long, our fishers have faced a tide of inequality. We are not only advocating for responsible seafood sourcing. We are calling for a more inclusive community where every worker is protected, respected, and heard.

Pagpupugay sa lahat ng manggagawang Pilipino!

As the Filipino Food Month celebration comes to a close, letโ€™s ladle into a soup that sits close to the hearts of people from the Southern Philippines.

Tinolang isda, or sinabโ€™wang isda, is one of those quiet dishes that has always existed in Filipino homes long before recipes were written down.

Rooted in the same tradition as tinola, this dish reflects how coastal communities across the Visayas and Mindanao cook what comes in fresh each day. Instead of chicken, fish takes the center, gently simmered in ginger, onions, tomato, and sometimes leafy vegetables. Itโ€™s a method shaped by proximity to the sea and the need to cook simply, letting freshness speak for itself.

Itโ€™s sometimes mistaken by some people as sinigang at first glance. But once you taste it, youโ€™ll realize itโ€™s not sour. Instead, itโ€™s clean, warm, and driven by the natural flavors of the fish and aromatics.

Commonly prepared in regions like Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and across Mindanao, sinabโ€™wang isda is everyday food. Itโ€™s what gets served when the catch arrives, when families gather, or when something warm and clean is needed after a long day.

It may look simple, but it carries the story of coastal living, where food is guided not by complexity, but by what is available, fresh, and shared.
