🇵🇭 ICYMI | Senator Risa Hontiveros openly commended the Supreme Court's ruling on Monday, affirming the conviction against the three police officers who played their role in the killing of Kian delos Santos in 2017.

The convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment and were ordered by the high court to pay the delos Santos family a total of PHP 275,000 in damages.

"Masayang balita ang desisyon na ito para sa pamilya at mga naulila ni Kian Delos Santos. Sana ay makatulong ito sa kanilang paghilom at pagbangon," Hontiveros said. "This is also an inspiring development for human rights advocates, lawyers and civic groups, and other families of victims of tokhang."

The senator noted that accountability must also be sought not only for Kian's killers but also for those government officials "who attempted to cover up the incident, and even made up lies about Kian and his family to justify his death."

"Marami pa ang dapat managot ukol sa mga patayan at pang-aabuso na konektado sa tokhang. Malinaw na sistematiko ang mga pagpatay, at habang hindi pinapanagot ang nag-utos, hindi ganap ang katarungan," she said.

"There are thousands more who have suffered so much like the Delos Santos family. Sana lahat sila, balang araw, ay makamit ang hustisya at kapayapaan na kanilang hinahanap."
