As today is the World Cerebral Palsy Day I am proud to be the first portuguese pastry chef and baker with cerebral palsy. It’s been a tough journey. I had to fight 5 years to find someone human like that believed in my passion and talent, and helped me with .portugal to accomplish one of my dreams: to become the first pastry Portuguese chef who also has cerebral palsy. I also have to say “thank you” to other professionals and teachers that have whiteness my journey and gave me the opportunity to learn more, to get more knowledge and to share my passion, to be me. Thanks to , , , , , and
I finished my pastry course in September 2020 and since then I continue to studying more about my passion and I also have been looking for a job everywhere but unfortunately my country does not care about my passion and accessibility.
Nobody had prepared me in my childhood times for the pain that is adulthood. Even though I was one of the best students of my class with final grade of 19 points (out of 20), the labor market does not do everything so I can have a place to work and feel usefull to society and do what I love. The problem for some companies is the disability, but the main problem is the lack of acessibility in the kitchen. There are so many things left to do, so we can freely do what we are meant to be doing, like everybody else.
Sometimes I feel like we live in a world that tells you that you have to be always happy and positive, that everything goes awesome. It turns like an epidemic of many toxic positivity vibes and I hate those made up words that someone invented. It’s okay, to not be okay, folks. People can’t do everything like some says. Everything is not for everyone. Everyone can’t do everything they want. That’s how life works and is good to have some balance.
Even Masterchef does not care about my passion. For the second time, they had not accept me because of Mrs Cerebral Palsy (as I like to call it).
I would like to accomplish one more dream until the end of this year: to find a job. Don’t make plans for life, let life show you the plans that is has for you. Maybe if everything goes sideways I have to create the school of disabled breads, sweets & cakes otherwise I don’t see a place to be free and do what I most love, to bake.
It’s not easy to be the first one doing what everybody tells you cannot do. I may be different but I am diferently able.
