Throwback to 2009 (or the pre-Instagram era for the younger crowd).

Before Rue du Pain’s opening, Floreasca was a bit of a wasteland – unlit streetlights (if any at all), lots of stray dogs and absolutely no restaurants whatsoever within a one-kilometer radius, to say the least. Only years later the neighborhood morphed into the buzzing food scene you see today in Floreasca. Proud of laying the foundation stone for that.

There were so many milestones celebrated at our French-inspired bistro tables… birthdays, business deals, baptism parties, first dates and even marriage proposals. Ok… the same tables have also witnessed some serious laughs, gossips, revealed secrets, tearful break-ups or happy encounters – we’ve seen it all.

But aside from being a breakfast institution, Rue du Pain was above all, a beloved bakery.
An inspiration for many (not referring to pitiful copycats here), Rue du Pain was part of so many people's lives: a place to get freshly baked croissants for the kids on the way to school, a daily destination for getting your favorite bread or a cake supplier for your family gatherings or special occasions.

Rue du Pain had baked its last batch of breads today.

We know how sad this news must be for all our staff - past and present, customers, partners and friends, but we take comfort in acknowledging and honouring how very special Rue du Pain has been to so many, during its 13 years of existence.

We cannot thank you enough for all the love, kindness and support you have shown us, especially during the past few days – it means a lot to every single member of our team.

At the end of every struggle there is always an opportunity, a chance to start over. So wipe those tears, there is no ending, it’s a fresh start, a new beginning.

Dear friends,
As the well-being of our staff and guests is of utmost importance to us, starting Monday, March 16 our bistro will be temporarly closed, to prevent spread of Covid-19.

To support our community, the bakery will continue to remain open from 8:00 to 4:00 pm, while adapting our daily routine and taking every precaution necessary to ensure a safe environment:
*Keeping foot traffic to a minimum, by closing the bistro.
*Adjusting our operating hours, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
*Working night-shifts, so that there are less people present during the day.
*Cleaning and sanitising our premises throughout the day.
*Installing air purifiers that have proven effective against highly pathogenic viruses (Parainfluenza virus, Avian Influenza virus).
*Providing hand sanitizer for the customers as well (our staff has always had such sanitizer dispensers at hand).
*Limiting the in-store shopping to 3 customers at the time (your patience is greatly appreciated...).
*Limiting the cash handling and consequently the spread of germs, by encouraging the cashless payments.
*Protecting both our staff and guests by installing an acrylic screen in front of the cash register, as a sneezeguard.
*Displaying safety signage all over the place – windows, walls and floors.

We are continuing to follow the situation closely, and hope things will remain under control, but if the outbreak deepens, we will have to close the bakery as well, to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved – guests and team members.

Dragii nostri,
În aceste zile, preocuparea noastră principală este siguranța fiecăruia dintre noi – a angajaților și a clienților noștri. Pentru a împiedica răspândirea infecțiilor cu noul coronavirus, începând de Luni, 16 Martie bistroul va fi închis temporar.

Înțelegem să venim în sprijinul comunităţii din care facem parte de peste 10 ani și vom continua să lucrăm, păstrând brutăria deschisă, luând însă toate măsurile necesare pentru a asigura un mediu cât mai sigur:
*Evitarea aglomerației, prin închiderea bistroului.
*Scurtarea programului de funcționare, de la 8:00 la 16:00.
*Suplimentarea turelor de noapte, pentru a fi cât mai puține persoane prezente la lucru, în timpul zilei.
*Curățarea și dezinfectarea regulată a spațiului.
*Instalarea unor purificatoare de aer care și-au dovedit eficiența în eliminarea unor virusuri înalt patogene precum virusul gripei aviare H5N2 și virusul uman parainfluenza hPIV-3 (tip 3).
*Instalarea de distribuitoare cu dezinfectant, dedicate clienților (angajații noștri au avut întotdeauna acces la astfel de dispozitive cu dezinfectant).
*Limitarea accesului în brutărie, până la maximum 3 persoane în același timp (vă mulțumim pentru înțelegere și răbdare...), pentru a menține o distanță de siguranță între clienți.
*Limitarea manipulării numerarului și implicit transmiterea bacteriilor, solicitând efectuarea plăților prin card/ telefon.
*Protejarea personalului de la vitrină dar și a clienților noștri, prin instalarea unui ecran de protecție în fața casei de marcat.
*Expunerea unui număr mare de afișe care informează clienții asupra măsurilor de siguranță și de prevenție.

Urmărim cu atenție situația și avem convingerea că lucrurile vor rămâne sub control, însă, dacă numărul infecțiilor va continua să crească, pentru a ne proteja angajații și persoanele care ne vizitează, vom întrerupe și activitatea brutăriei.

Protejați-vă pe voi și pe cei din jur, fiți responsabili și respectați măsurile de prevenție și protecție și nu uitați să rămâneți pozitivi. ❤️

If we were to sum up the past 10 years in just one sentence, „prove the naysayers wrong” would best reflect and tell the story of Rue du Pain.

There were a lot of raised eyebrows when we first installed our storefront sign and it took us about 8 months until we finally opened doors, against all odds, as everyone around us was convinced we will fail.
Our name alone appeared to be a nonstarter, as it was – apparently – too difficult to pronounce.
Location-wise, all ‘well-meaning’ people were kind enough to foresee nothing but disaster – after all, you could see more stray dogs than pedestrians in Floreasca, at the time.
Besides, there was no other way for us but to go out of business within months, as we were one of the few nonsmoking cafés in town (if not the very first).
The funniest of all was to tell people we actually make the breads from scratch, every morning, by hand… in a time when industrial bakeries were proudly communicating on their packaging that you – the customer – is the first human to actually touch the bread, as it was produced by a fully automated machine.

Looking back on the day we first opened our doors, we just now realized that the bread Gods must have been watching over us, as it all happened on September 9, 2009. Yeap – 9/9/09. No – it was certainly not planned; we’ve just got the lucky draw :). And here we are, a decade later, doing well, still ahead of the game, planning a complete makeover of the bakery (oh, we are so looking forward to this!…) and working on some tasty surprises in both the kitchen and the bakery.

Our grief is overwhelming. It will also be long.
But his legacy lives on, if his name is still spoken.
It’s a parent’s duty to retell the stories they heard from their grandparents. Pay your tribute by teaching your children about loyalty, dignity, integrity, morality and modesty – values of rare display these days but inseparable from His Majesty’s life.

September 9 marks an important milestone for Rue du Pain. Exactly 8 years ago we baked our first bread and since then what a wonderful journey it’s been… We can’t thank you enough for your support and friendship.

E greu de crezut, dar au trecut 8 ani de cand Rue du Pain a aparut in piata Floreasca, respectiv in vietile multora dintre voi. Va multumim din suflet pentru ca ne sunteti alaturi…

Asa cm stiti deja, brutaria Rue du Pain este inchisa doar 6 zile pe parcursul anului. Sunt zilele in care ne bucuram de prezenta celor dragi noua si ne tragem sufletul, pentru a reveni apoi veseli si odihniti, gata sa o luam de la capat.
Incepand de maine dimineata va mirosi din nou a paine calda si cozonaci in Piata Floreasca :).
Craciun Fericit tuturor si pe curand....
