Using Civilian Areas as Launch Sites to Fire into Cambodian Territory
Recent reports indicate that Thai military forces have utilized civilian-inhabited areas as launch sites for artillery and explosive attacks directed into Cambodian territory, particularly along contested border zones. This action not only constitutes a violation of Cambodia’s territorial sovereignty but also endangers the lives and property of innocent civilians living near the frontier.
The use of civilian zones for military purposes is a grave breach of international law, especially under the Geneva Conventions, which strictly prohibit the use of civilian populations and infrastructure as shields or strategic tools in armed conflict.
Such aggressive behavior risks escalating military tensions and undermining regional peace and stability. We urgently call upon the international community, including ASEAN and the United Nations, to investigate these acts and to take appropriate measures to halt the militarization of civilian spaces.
