Helpless
Chapter 4
Gift quietly opened the door and peeped, she didn't see anyone
She closed the door and said a prayer before entering the parlour
Martha was preparing for work when she saw Gift sitting on the couch, she became scared and went to call her husband
Henry was lying beside his daughter when the door opened
Martha swallowed a huge lump of spit and tapped Henry roughly
Henry yawned loudly and hissed, stretching himself on the bed
What is it? He asked rubbing his eyes
Someone is in the living room... she replied and left
Henry wore his slippers and left the room,he tapped Gift from the back and she sprang up looking at his bare chest and smiling sheepishly
What brought you to my house? He asked perplexed
Erm I only came to say hello,I was actually going to sell my oranges... She said
Starting when?
I'm sorry oooo.. she pleaded rubbing her two palms
Please leave my house and never return again.. Henry told her
You know your daughter has been staying with me... She said laughing
And so what? My daughter? The one you sent to sell oranges and got missing,I don't even want to start talking about it because it's too early
Gift stared at him for some minutes and turned to leave, Martha called her back
What do you want from that little girl? Martha asked
What I want? Nothing... she replied opening the door
Please leave my house... Henry shouted
Gift left immediately shaking like someone who has been exposed to cold
Can you please return that girl to wherever she came from, her sight irritates me.. Martha said
What did you just say? Henry asked going close to her
Her sight irritates me honey,I don't want to see her again... She said again
You better leave this house in peace.. Henry told her and went back to his room
Martha hissed and went back to the kitchen to continue with what she was doing
Mum you won't believe that Henry sent me out of his house.. Gift told her mum
He has grown wings.. Mrs Joseph replied picking up her s***f box
I didn't even see the sight of Diana there I just pray nothing happens to that girl.. Gift said supporting her chin with her palm
Don't be scared my daughter, you have me..Mrs Joseph assured her
Gift sighed and called her daughter to get her a broom
Precious dropped the broom on the floor for her, she turned to leave but decided to through a huge question at her mum
"Where's my father,who is my father?" Precious asked with her hands akimbo
Get me a cup of water... Gift told her trying to dismiss her
There's no water for you until you tell me who my father is.. She insisted
Gift didn't say a word, she picked up her basket and left the house
Henry left for work after bathing and feeding his daughter, Martha and Diana were the only ones at home
Martha was expecting a visitor, she decided to send Diana on an errand
Diana or whatever your name is, come here.. Martha shouted
Diana stood in front of her, waiting for her to do her worst
Go to the back of the, you will see a long bucket use to get water for me from the stream.. she commanded giving her a bombastic side eye
But I don't know where the stream is located.. She replied
How dare you talk when I'm talking?
But you were done talking before I responded to your......
Get out you motherless fowl, go and get me a bucket of water... Martha interrupted
Diana went to the backyard, she picked up the bucket which was lying carelessly on the floor and left
Diana saw the girl she met days ago and introduced herself, she begged the girl to take her to the stream but she bluntly refused telling her that there's no stream around that vicinity
I'll take you to that borehole over there.. the girl told her
Thank you.. she thanked
Diana fetched the water and left, she mistakenly opened the door which led to Martha's room and saw the greatest shock of her life
Martha was inside the room with another man
My father's wife!! She murmured to herself
Martha gave her the beating of her life which she would never forget in a hurry
