Nee Mueng Farm is a sustainable agriculture and natural resource management educational project. Our farm centers are not only a place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, but a place to participate and learn and share knowledge about small scale farming systems and biodiversity minded lifestyles. We provide experiential learning opportunities through the practical application of ec
ologically sound conservation agricultural techniques; active participation in the development of our forest garden learning center; and through the opportunity to learn about, thus preserve, indigenous knowledge of biodiversity. Volunteers are welcome to participate and lean: We ask for a small slide scale donations(THB 150-300/day) to support farm activities and maintanance. Our Locations
We currently have two locations, the original Nee Mueng Farm in the foothills southwest of Chiang Mai City and the Nee Mueng Urban Farm in an northwest neighborhood of the city. Nee Mueng Farm - Mae Hia
At Nee Mueng Farm in Mae Hia district the focus is on restoring a landscape that has been degraded over the years though ‘swidden’ agricultural and agro-forestry practices. With the goal of preserving and sharing knowledge of beneficial tree and shrub species and maximizing ecosystem-services of we are developing a forest garden system through the Analog-Forestry approach. Additionally, the Mae Hia farm is where we cultivate quinoa as we are trying to develop a market for it in Thailand. This is also the site for our natural building learning center where students and volunteers can participate in workshops on bamboo and earthen brick building. Nee Mueng Urban Farm
At Nee Mueng Urban Farm then focus has been on transforming marginal and neglected land in an urban area into a productive and profitable small scale biologically minded farm. When the land was obtained it was overgrown with invasive plant species and the soil drained of all nutrients leaving it a grey clayey-dust in which did not retain any moisture. Whatmore, the area was filled with cement rubble, plastic, glass, and rubber detritus. However, over the past three years, section by section, we have combed through the soil cleaning it up and transforming it in to a soil rich in micro-organisms and organic material. At Nee Muang Urban Farm we focus on cultivating a diverse range of organic fruit, herbs, and vegetables for local markets, experimenting with different value adding processes, and the producting of our own Effective Microorganisim organic liquid fertilizer.
