10th St. Farm & Market

10th St. Farm & Market Local Food for Local People! We are a small extended season farm in Afton, mn growing produce using natural practices 12 months out of the year.

We are a small family farm, respecting the land and appreciating the food it provides. We believe a farm is a celebration of nature’s gifts. Our goal is to harness those gifts through a combination of low acreage-high production farming methods, organic practices and extended season tools. To extend the growing season and maximize the natural systems provided throughout the year, we use two movabl

e high tunnels, succession plantings and crop rotation. We offer an On-farm market open from April - Nov, a CSA (community supported agriculture) program, and sell wholesale to local co-ops and restaurants.

We repurposed a couple of baker’s racks to be our tomato storage system this summer and it is changing 👏 our 👏 lives 👏. No more stacking and unstacking heavy tomato trays! Simplified labeling and sorting! Better use of our cool room space! A small upgrade that’s making a big difference on the farm.

Also, as you can see: WE HAVE TOMATOES. Like a lot of them. Real tasty ones of all colors and sizes. Come get some!

A HUGE shout-out to our incredible crew, who powered through one of the more intense weather weeks we’ve had on the farm. Early mornings to beat the heat, indoor days to avoid the smoke - these farmers have done whatever it takes to get delicious veggies watered, weeded, harvested, and packed. We feel lucky to have such an amazing team! And we’re all ready for more reasonable weather soon!

Mowing down some cover crops in our front field like it ain’t no thang. This cover crop is a mix called Summer Max, which contains buckwheat, oats, forage peas, sorghum-sudangrass, and crimson clover. We’re growing it in a low-fertility section of our field that we don’t plan to plant this year, to tamp down weeds and add organic matter and fertility back to the soil.

I guess the kids would say we’re summermaxxing!

This flail mower has made taking down thick stands of cover crops like this super easy. We bought it with assistance from a Minnesota Department of Agriculture grant and have been loving it this season!

Taking some time this morning to survey the damage from a significant hailstorm that hit us last night. Mourning the loss of beautiful greens, finding silver linings where we can, and pinning some hopes on the resilience of plants. Thanks to everyone who has reached out with kind words, we feel your support.
