Monte Boscovich passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2025. Monte was multi-talented with his skills in baking, knitting, crocheting, and artistic endeavors. For years, Monte decorated their house for every holiday, and it became a tradition for Alameda families to stop by to see the displays.

Today is the day for the grand opening of Slice House by Tony Gemignani at the Castro Valley Marketplace and people started lining up at 7 AM ! Slice House will offer 4 styles of handmade crust including traditional New York, homestyle Grandma, rustic Sicilian, and robust Detroit-style pizzas – available by the slice or whole pie. While a lawsuit from an adjacent property owner put an end to outdoor seating, community members suggest "BYOC" (Bring Your Own Chair) to enjoy your meal outside. Tony Gemignani will be there today, giving out hats to the first 50 customers and signing books. The opening day hours are 11 AM to 9 PM. (Image : Donna L. who is first in line)
