Spring has sprung — and so has our produce department with delicious organics. Alameda Natural Grocery has a large variety of fresh organic fruits and vegetables every week. Take a behind‑the‑scenes look inside the produce department.

It’s also a great time to package organic frozen fruits and vegetables — picked and packed at their peak to lock in freshness, flavor, and nutrients. Enjoy a variety of long‑lasting convenience without preservatives, and keep your freezer stocked with wholesome organics all season long.

What does “organic” mean?
Nate explains: it means our produce is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers and is never genetically modified (GMO) — a healthier choice for you and the planet.

We’re located on Park Street in Alameda.

Happy Earth Day!!

Among other things, today is a reminder that better things are possible, and that Mother Earth is worth fighting for.

We have a long way to go, but we're committed to doing our part to get us closer to a greener and cleaner future.

Thank you all for your efforts, too!

Good food should do good things.

This Friday, shop at either or and 3% of sales will support the , a Bay Area organization doing the quiet, unglamorous, and essential work of caring for our unhoused neighbors.

Every week, they're out there hauling trash from the streets, parks, and waterways (3,000+ tons and counting), distributing blankets, meals, clothing, and hygiene products to hundreds of people, and connecting individuals to housing and services through hands-on case management. To date, they've linked more than 10,000 people to critical resources!

Their model is simple but powerful: show up consistently, listen first, and build real trust between housed and unhoused neighbors across the Greater Bay Area.

This Friday, your grocery run is part of that.

Stock your kitchen, support your community.

Here's something wild, did you know you can make paper from a mushrooms? Actual, holdable, giftable, and frameable paper from fungi? Yep.

Enrique is going to show you exactly how it's done using wild-foraged artist conks and red-belted conks, traditional screens and deckles, and what we're told may or may not involve a Vitamix.

You'll learn the whole process from fungal slurry to finished sheet, and you'll make your own piece of real mushroom paper to take home. It's the kind of thing you'll show people for years.

This is the second portion of our two-part workshop this Friday night, Introduction to Mushroom Dye and Mushroom Paper Making, where you'll also dye fabric with dyes made from mushrooms.

One ticket will get you into both parts of this two hour workshop. All supplies are included.

Go check the link in the bio to see if we've got any spots left, and to get yours. Buy two tix for you and a guest and save $5.

🍄 Did you know California mushrooms can turn a plain silk scarf into something you'll wear forever?

Meet Liz the forager, herbalist, and the myco-phile who will walk you through the full wild mushroom dye process this Friday night at The Meeting Place in Castro Valley.

We're talking real natural pigments from fungi foraged right here in California. There will be dye baths, mordants, we're talking art, nature, and science all in one. And you walk out with a hand-dyed silk scarf that no one else on earth has.

She'll be showcasing two different colors, so expect a little mystery about which one you'll end up with. Want to bring your own silk, felt, or wool piece instead? Go for it.

This is just part of a two-part workshop, Introduction to Mushroom Dye and Mushroom Paper Makin that is happening that night.

March's installment of our recently revived Change Things campaign is turning our attention to the wonderful Women’s Foundation California.

The funds grassroots organizations led by and for communities building movements for justice, redistributing power and resources to women and gender-expansive people across California.

Racial justice. Economic justice. Environmental justice. Gender justice. They show up for all of it. And this Women's History Month, we're proud to show up for them.

On Friday, March 6th, we're donating 3% of our sales from both stores to Women's Foundation California to help fund their work.

And if you're in Castro Valley, be sure to stop by the First Friday Community Market happening 5-8 pm. The theme of this month's market is supporting small local-women businesses.

While you try the Pozole Verde Soup you might want to pair it with a fresh cut organic Avocado on the side. They can be easily be warmed up. It can serve 2 people for a full meal or 4 as a side. As you can see from the video even the broth is made by scratch. The soups are cooled before packaged and then sent to the cooler section. They are both Wheat Free. Healthy
