Last Saturday was one of those days that reminded me why I love getting to do stuff like this.

We had two Subs & Such teams playing in the Brittany Johnson Memorial at WindRiver.

I didn’t know Brittany, but after learning more about her and why this tournament exists, I’m grateful we got to be a small part of it. She was a William Blount graduate and Maryville College basketball player whose life was cut way too short at 21. Her family has made sure her impact didn’t end there through the Brittany Johnson Golf Challenge Memorial Fund.

One of our teams was Tony Alemar from The Back Nine Golf - Alcoa, TN, Mike Attkisson from Attkisson Automotive, Josh Spradling from Wilson Brothers Plumbing Inc. , and me.

But I also got to put together a foursome I’d been looking forward to for a while.

Josh Stephens from Alcoa High School (Alcoa, TN). Brad White from Maryville High School. Jordan Conley from William Blount High School. And our buddy Jack, a longtime Subs & Such regular.

I wanted those guys together for a reason.

These guys have jobs that are a whole lot bigger than wins and losses.

They pour an incredible amount of themselves into young people. They build programs, solve problems nobody ever hears about, support coaches and families, and help kids grow into young men and women.

And most of that work happens when nobody is watching.

So I thought it would be pretty cool to give them a few hours where nobody needed anything from them. No sidelines. No school colors to defend. Just four guys playing golf, talking shop, and getting to know each other better.

I’ve been fortunate to build relationships with these guys, and I value every one of them deeply.

And look, we may be an Alcoa family with a business in Alcoa in the micro sense. But we’re a Blount County family with a Blount County business in the macro. And we’ll always stand beside these leaders and their programs because of what they do for our kids.

And I can’t think of a better place for all of that to come together than an event making sure the life of a young woman from this community continues making a difference for the young people who come after her.

Pretty awesome way to spend a Saturday 🧡

Thanks to everyone who came out for our Dine Out Day, we were able to raise nearly $1,500 for United Way of Blount County!

We love getting to do stuff like this. Eat some sandwiches, hang out with good people, and send some money back into an organization doing important work right here in our community.

Thank y’all for showing up like you always do! And a big thank you to United Way for letting us be a small part of what they do 🧡

We’ll definitely do it again!

Alright, let’s do something good with these 📚🏈

As a stadium sponsor for William Blount Football, we were given four season passes for this season.

As the father of two 3-year-olds, I have also accepted the reality that getting myself to every Friday night football game is… ambitious 😂

So instead of letting these sit on my desk, we’re auctioning all four passes together to the highest bidder.

And 100% of the winning bid is going to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library 🦋

My boys get those books in the mail every month. We read them. They love them. And with Dolly’s passing this week, it feels like a small way to help continue something she built that has made a real difference for kids and families, including mine. ❤️

Here’s how it works:
Drop your bid in the comments. All four season passes go together to the highest bidder.

Bidding closes Friday at NOON 🤘🏼

Let’s see what we can turn four football passes into 📚❤️

82 years young! 🎉

We got to celebrate a pretty special birthday at the shop today!

Wayne Drennan turned 82, and his wife Betty has been working on this party for months. Today it all came together, with 50+ friends and family filling the shop at one point to celebrate him 🧡🧡

There’s something really special about getting to be the place where people choose to gather for moments like this. Birthdays, celebrations, old friends, family…that’s the good stuff.

Happy 82nd birthday, Wayne!!! We’re glad we got to be a small part of your day ❤️

Y’all help us wish Wayne a HAPPY BIRTHDAY in the comments! 🎂🎉

🌪️ WHAT! A! GAME!

Two overtimes. A 2-point conversion on the final play. Alcoa by ONE.

Nothing but respect for the players and coaches on BOTH sides. That was an absolute battle, and Blount County should be incredibly proud of both programs tonight.

Now… we did say tomorrow’s discount would be the margin of victory 😂

Technically, that means 1% off.

Yeah, we’re not doing that.

10% OFF ALL DAY SATURDAY. FOR ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE!!

And there’s an even better reason to come see us tomorrow.

From 3:00–7:00 PM, it’s our Dine Out Day benefiting United Way of Blount County. So come celebrate an incredible night of local football, grab some food, and help us raise some money for an organization doing good work right here at home 🧡

And with the Battle of Pistol Creek officially behind us…

The trash talk gets put away for another year 😂

We’re back to our regularly scheduled programming:

Supporting ALL of our local schools, kids and programs every chance we get 🧡

What a freaking game!

Congratulations, Alcoa!
Hell of a fight, Maryville!

Not sure what to wear to the Battle of Pistol Creek tonight? We got you. 🌪️

After enough people asking me where I got mine, I finally had a small batch made.

Limited-run Alcoa Subs & Such shoodies are at the shop now. Black, Maroon, and Aluminum. $30.

Lightweight, ridiculously comfortable, and you’ve probably seen me wearing mine approximately 1,000 times over the last year. 😂 There’s a reason.

ALCOA across the front.
Our sandwich on the sleeve.
LOCAL OVER EVERYTHING.

Only made a small batch, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.

Swing by before heading to the Battle of Pistol Creek tonight and get yourself right. 🤘🏼🌪️

EVERYONE, MEET JENN 👋

We’ve got a new face at Subs & Such!

Jenn has joined our team as our Director of Catering & Brand Development, and I’m really excited about what she’s going to bring to this place!!

She comes to us with an extensive background in leadership and brings a skill set and perspective that I think will be incredibly valuable as we continue to grow.

A big part of her focus will obviously be catering. There’s a ton of opportunity there, and over the next few months I’ll be transitioning the day-to-day catering side of the business over to Jenn. She’ll eventually become the primary point of contact for our catering customers and help us take that part of Subs & Such to another level.

But her role goes beyond catering.

She’ll also be working alongside me on brand development as we continue figuring out what the next chapter of Subs & Such looks like and how we grow while staying true to who we are.

And before anybody asks… you’re not getting rid of me 😂

I’ll still be front and center with our schools, community partnerships, local businesses, events, and everything else you’re used to seeing me involved in. If you specifically want to talk to me, I’m still right here 🧡

This just adds another really talented person to our team who can help us do more and do it better 🤘🏼

She’s only been here a week, but I already know Jenn is going to make a big impact around here!!

So if you see her in the shop, say hey and welcome her to the Subs & Such family 🧡

We’re excited to have her!

And we’re excited about what’s ahead!

🌪️ ALCOA BY A MILLION!!! 🌪️

Alright, so y’all know us by now.

For 51 weeks out of the year, we’re pulling for ALL of these kids. Every single one!

But this is RIVALRY WEEK!! Battle of Pistol Creek week!

🌪️ ALCOA vs. MARYVILLE 🔴⚫️

So we’re bringing back one of our favorite things from last year:

Whatever Alcoa wins by Friday night is YOUR discount with us on Saturday.

🌪️ Win by 7 = 7% OFF
🌪️ Win by 14 = 14% OFF
🌪️ Win by 28 = 28% OFF

But this year, I’m putting my money where my mouth is.

If Maryville wins, we DOUBLE IT. 😬

Maryville wins by 7? 14% OFF.
Maryville wins by 14? 28% OFF.

That’s how confident we’re feeling over here in Alcoa 🤷🏼‍♂️

And we want ALL the rivalry-week banter. Wear your colors when you come in. Talk your trash. Give us hell.

Keep it friendly. Just don’t keep it quiet. 😂

👇 And let’s hear it here: Who wins the Battle of Pistol Creek this year and what’s the final score?

ALSO!!! Saturday 8/22 is our Dine Out Day for United Way of Blount County. ❤️

From 3:00 to 7:00 PM, 100% OF SALES will go to United Way of Blount County.

So whatever happens Friday night, come see us Saturday. Save some money, continue the trash talk, and help us turn Rivalry Week into something good for the whole community.

At midnight after the game, we go right back to:

LOCAL OVER EVERYTHING 🤘🏼

Until then…

🏆 WELL… THIS IS AWKWARD 🏆

Remember the other day when we told everyone going to the United Way of Blount County Sporting Clays Tournament to consider themselves officially on notice?

Turns out we may have undersold it 😂

FIRST PLACE! RED COURSE 🏆

And by “we,” I mostly mean we were smart enough to bring some damn ringers!

Gavin from the Heritage High School Shooting Team absolutely showed OUT today. Couldn’t be more proud of this young man! And a huge thank you to his coach, Mr. Keith Ford, for coming out and spending the day with us!! Getting to know these two and having them represent Subs & Such today was easily the best part of the whole thing.

And Cole came out and helped us dust the competition too. Heck of a team today 😂

All jokes aside, United Way of Blount County and the ICC International put on an absolutely spectacular event. We were fortunate enough to feed everyone lunch today, shoot alongside a bunch of great people from around our community, and support an organization doing important work right here in Blount County 🧡

This is the kind of stuff we love!

A local business. A local school. A local organization. People and businesses from all over Blount County coming together, having a damn good time, and doing some good while we’re at it.

We’re incredibly grateful to get to be a small part of days like this.

But also…

We won!

And not like “aw shucks, we got lucky” won.

We waxed everybody!! 😂🏆

Respectfully, of course.

LOCAL OVER EVERYTHING ❤️

Someone come get your friend. 😂 Or at least tell him he’s outta his mind.

I’m always open to criticism. Hell, sometimes we deserve it.

But if you come at the business sideways with accusations that simply aren’t true, I’m probably going to respond with the same energy.

And yeah, I probably take comments like this more personally than I should.

I care deeply about this community and about the opportunity I’ve been given to carry on the legacy of a business that’s been part of Blount County for decades. We genuinely try to be a positive part of this community, support the people around us, and leave this place better than we found it.

So when somebody takes shots at that, especially when what they’re saying simply isn’t true, it pi**es me off.

You can dislike what we’re doing. You can think the food was better 20 years ago. You can even think comedy at a sandwich shop is a dumb idea. 😂

That’s fair.

But at least get your facts right.

And if you come at us sideways, don’t be shocked when I don’t respond with a canned corporate customer-service answer. I care too much about this place for that.

Anyway… comedy show is Saturday. 🤘🏼😂
