We still have some beef available but please contact us soon as the time frame for processing is drawing near.
Did you know that Grass Fed beef has an excellent nutritional profile? Compared with grain fed beef, grassfed beef has as much as four times more vitamin E, five times more cancer fighting CLA (natural CLA from animal products has been found to be 600% more effective in fighting cancer), three times more heart-friendly omega-3s, and twice as much beta-carotene. It's also lower in calories, total fat, and saturated fat.
Ruminant livestock such as cattle were not designed to eat grain. After WW II and the mechanization of farms and the increase in synthetic fertilizers led to an abundance of grain, feeding grain to ruminant livestock became popular. It was an easy way to make animals grow fat faster. However, even minimal grain feeding upsets the balance of healthy omega-3 to omega-6 fat ratios. Grassfed meat is less likely to be contaminated with acid-resistant forms of E. coli bacteria. Research has shown that high-grain diets make E. coli more virulent by making it resistant to the natural protection our stomach acid provides.
All our cattle are homegrown as we have a closed herd and we never use any routine or prohpylactic antibiotics or pesticides. We free-choice feed Redmond salt, kelp, and a probiotic dried yeast product from Diamond V Mills to boost overall immune function. We also use insect repellant made from essential oils and diatomaceous earth along with fly predators to control insects.

It's that time again when we begin to harvest the beef that we've been raising for 2 years (grass-fed beef takes 2 to 2/12 years to finish well). We're taking orders now for $100 bundles (ground, a roast, and steaks), 1/4, 1/2 or whole by the hanging weight and, of course, individual packages, as available. We raise Aberdeen Angus as they are well suited to grass-finishing, but of smaller stature with hanging weights in the range of 400-500 #. Message me or call if interested 309-371-6219. Ready the first of October.

We just returned from Dadant in Hamilton, IL with 2 more packages of bees, that's 20,000 bees! Our pear tree has been in full bloom for a few days and it looks as though our resident bees are working late tonight.

This photo was taken early last week and I was surprised and pleased to see my bees were finding a source of nectar as you can see by their full, yellow "baskets"! Late winter/early spring is a challenging time for bees as winter stores are running low, nectar sources are extremely limited, and the brood season is cranking up. This is a good indication that all is as it should be in the hive right now. Full hive inspection is next on the docket!
