Greta! What a ride it has been….this spring she’ll be calving again and we are hoping for another heifer calf. Last year she had a beautiful baby girl we named Violet who is every bit her mama’s heart.

Introducing Greta, the resilient and beloved orphaned bottle calf! 🐄 Two years ago, Greta stole our hearts when we discovered her mother didn't make it through calving at the Plainview farm. She braved the move to the city with the girls and I, where she learned the art of bottle feeding and graduated to drinking from a bucket. She eventually moved back to the farm. Greta is thriving independently, but she always lights up when she sees familiar faces, and comes to visit at the gate when called. We miss her dearly and cherish every visit, and the memories of having a calf in our backyard. Unfortunately, according to the city I can't raise livestock in the city limits 😂🌱

There’s something special about this time of year 🌱🐄

The herd is curious, calm, and very much enjoying the spring weather. You can see it in the background: that first flush of green grass starting to wake up. It’s beautiful… but not quite tall enough yet for grazing.

They’re ready for it. And honestly, they’re impatient in the best way - waiting for those pastures to reach the point where they can be released to enjoy fresh grass again.

Until then, they’re staying well-fed and content on certified organic hay that was carefully harvested and put up last year. It’s all part of the rhythm of farming planning ahead, caring for the land, and making sure the animals have what they need through every season.

Soon enough the temporary fence will come down and it will rotate between those lush green fields for the rest of the season. For now, it’s a quiet in-between moment… full of anticipation, good care, and the promise of months ahead 🌿

When farmers carefully guide cattle from one pasture to the next, it allows the grass to rest and regenerate, capturing carbon from the atmosphere and safely storing it in the soil.

What makes this even more remarkable is that only about 1 in 100 farms implements certified organic methods alongside rotational grazing. This commitment is rare and requires intention, stewardship, and daily dedication to nurture the land, animals, and future generations. Tony, the cattle farmer for Unparalleled Farms is passionate about both organic farming and rotationally grazing!
