MAY UPDATE: Here's a photo of a small section of the farm this morning. Wet and gloomy! It's been that kind of spring. The plants don't like it. Growth has been super slow. I am hoping I'll be able to open on Saturday, May 16, but it's looking like I may have to delay until May 23. I'll make an announcement mid next week.
When I do open, I expect to have early season crops - 4 kinds of lettuce, plus arugula, several kinds of radish, spinach and seedlings, and perhaps some other crops.
This spring I expanded the farming area by about 25 percent, so I will be able to fit all of the new varieties of tomatoes, beans and greens that my customers asked me to add to the stand. I have just under 1/4 acre in cultivation.
For my berry fans, here's some good news. The strawberry plants are growing fast and strong, and a few even have blossoms. Blueberries and raspberries are also looking healthy and strong. Usually I have my first strawberries on the stand around June 5, and blueberries around July 1. Raspberries are on the stand around mid July.
Thanks to everyone who supports the farmstand! In a typical year, I grow close to 4 tons of food. I'm hoping this year will be the biggest year yet, maybe 5 tons. I'm glad it doesn't all ripen at once! That would be tough on my back.

Do I see melting snow? Spring can't be too far off...
And, my Regenerative Growing classes will soon be starting! These are 4-week (one 1.5 hour session per week) practical and hands-on classes that will guide you on Regenerative Growing. This is the next generation of organic growing. I've been practicing it for 5 years and I am eager to pass on the techniques to you. Your garden will be healthier and more productive, and you'll make the planet a lot happier.
I have 2 rounds of classes: Tuesdays at 6 p.m. starting March 24, and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. starting April 29. Class sizes limited to 6 people, cost is $60.
I have taught this course to dozens of students at Greater Newburyport Adult Ed, and have decided to start teaching it at my farm to allow more active hands-on learning. You gotta get your hands dirty!
If you are interested, please email me at [email protected], and I will send you more details on the course and enrollment.
