Thank you New Era Windows for all your hard work and struggle, and for being a shining example of a more just democratic economy! Power to you!

When Republic Windows and Doors closed down without giving workers notice, the issue drew national attention. Since then, they’ve turned the factory into a worker-owned co-op—where they hold the power.

Check out the North East Investment Coop we visited in Minneapolis! Democratizing finance and localizing business ownership are important steps towards a cooperative economy, and NEIC is doing both in a v cool way.

Though the model is new, and small, it holds outsize potential for the many neighborhoods whose downtowns are controlled by faraway landlords or retail chains.

In the summers of 2012 and 2013, a group of college students and recent grads bicycled across America, visiting cooperative businesses and re-imagining the country they were about to inherit.

Dear Valued Co-Cycle supporter,

We are writing to you to inform you about the final decision to end Co-Cycle. After two successful tours across the country, meeting with dozens of cooperative and collective businesses, and dozens more worker owners and inspiring entrepreneurs, we as a collective feel that we can no longer maintain the duties to organize and implement future tours. We wanted to thank you for your contributions, big or small, and for supporting Co-Cycle and our mission.

As we close our doors, we wanted to reach out and let you all know that while Co-Cycle may not ever ride collectively again, we are eager to continue to spread awareness and information about cooperative businesses. If you ever feel motivated to mention us to someone who might be interested in leading a collective tour, or learning more about cooperative curriculums, we are happy to be referred to as a resource.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or comments, and again we are so appreciative of your generosity and support.

Upwards and Onwards,

The Co-Cycle Collective

To our many supporters,

After much deliberation it has been decided that the 2014 Co-cycle tour be canceled.

For varying personal reasons, in the past few weeks several riders chose not to participate in this summers tour, bringing the tour to just five participants. It has become clear to the Organizational Committee that a tour with only five people would not be conducive to the experience that Co-cycle is intended to be. Because Co-cycle relies heavily on the individual fundraising of each rider, the 2014 tour would experience a financial strain, which in turn would add additional stress to an already demanding experience. And of even more importance, with such few riders, the health and safety of each rider would be compromised, and we as an organization are not willing to compromise the safety of our riders under any circumstance.

The Co-cycle Team will continue to focus on organizational development and is discussing the potential of organizing future tours.

As always, thank you for your constant support and stay tuned for updates on our future plans!

Throwback Thursday!
Hendrix & Michelle go to retrieve the tent that's blown all the way across the field! This was some of the most wild weather we encountered on the tour last summer.
