In 2022, we began the tradition of donating proceeds from our Rainbow Pride Cupcakes to an LGBTQ organization in Michigan, and the first was Jim Toy Community Center. Jim Toy, the first publicly “out” man in Michigan as of 1970, is a household name when it comes to LGBTQ activism in Michigan — a badge earned from 40 years of tireless effort to protect sexual and gender minorities, and promote equality for all. Today the JTCC is a resource for information, education, social events, and advocacy by and for the LGBTQ community and its allies throughout Washtenaw County.

TODAY! Bialys are here from Zingerman's Bakehouse. The Bakehouse's version of the traditional bialy that hails from Bialystok, Poland. Crispy, chewy, with a delicious center of slow-roasted onions and poppy seeds. Consider them the bagel's unboiled cousin, without the hole. They are still hand-shaped and stone hearth baked by the wonderful Bakehouse staff.

LAST CHANCE for May's Sandwich of the Month, She's A Bad Mama Jama! This sandwich is created by the team at Columbia Asset Management (aka CAM), a professional wealth management firm here in Ann Arbor, MI. After a thorough team ‘due diligence’ process, a collective decision was made by the team to bid on the create-a-sandwich opportunity donated to the Cancer Support Community’s Flavors of Hope event. Cancer Support Community (CSC) is a non-profit organization providing free, evidence-based support services to anyone affected by cancer, including patients, caregivers, and children. Located in Ann Arbor, it offers support groups, counseling, healthy lifestyle programs, and financial assistance to help reduce the emotional and financial burden of cancer. Brian Weisman, owner of CAM, has been a board member for CSC for many years.

The CAM team diversified their sandwich portfolio, sampling a wide range of options before putting their seal of approval on the final high-performing asset, available every day in May. Their top-performing pick, She’s a Bad Mama Jama, features all natural, preservative-free turkey breast, Zingerman’s pastrami, Swiss Emmental cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, fresh avocado spread, a drizzle of olive oil & red wine vinegar on a grilled Paesano roll from Zingerman’s Bakehouse. We all think Carl Carlton would have agreed that this sandwich is built and stacked, with returns that hit just as hard as his 1981 classic. Here every day in May!
