Checking on the bees to make sure the queens got out of their queen cages. 6 for 6! All seem to be doing well and starting to lay larvae. Check out the second picture for a queen out and about.

Bonus that we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset too.

It’s been a while since our last post, so why not pick national honey bee day to give an update! Currently all the hives are doing great and we are extracting honey from supers that will be available shortly!

Also here’s a clip of a swarm we were able to re-hive earlier this July! They are currently doing great! Check in for more updates!

Have you ever had honey crystallize in the jar? Don’t throw it away! It’s actually a sign that your honey is REAL! Natural raw unfiltered honey will crystallize because the natural sugars found in honey will start to form a natural crystallized bond. This process can also be sped up if your honey has a high pollen content. That doesn’t mean the honey is unsafe to eat, it actually means you have a real natural product with all the good stuff you want and none of the added sugars you would get from the store.

Crystallized honey can be easily made liquid again by just putting the jar of honey in a bowl with hot (not boiling) water up to the neck of the bottle and placing a towel over the top to help keep the heat in. In about 10 minutes your honey will be back in its liquid state! This is the best way to warm up the honey without hurting any of the beneficial enzymes.

Crystallized honey can also be consumed as is, many countries use it as a spread on toast and biscuits.

Honey bees are actually very gentle and can be picked up without stinging you in most cases, unlike yellow jackets or wasps. Here’s some proof as Erica is able to scoop up a handful of bees from one of our hives.
