DID YOU KNOW that you can get local mushrooms here at Homestead? They come from Myzel Risin', just a hop and a skip down in Ridgeville Corners.
Currently we have these varietes of freeze-dried mushrooms (rehydrate to use as fresh) in stock (hopefully some day we can offer fresh)! Variety and availability may vary over time.

'IF YOU CARE' UNBLEACHED PAPER PRODUCTS

TOMATO POWDER
"What do you use it for??" We get asked this question a lot and I'd like to try to answer that for you!
Personally, I love having a dry tomato option in my kitchen. I can toss it in with any savory dish where I want to add a little flavor or want to thicken the consistency of something. Think soups, casseroles, skillet dishes, etc. I can also use it in a pinch when I don't have tomato on hand, and I have a recipe that calls for it.

You will find tomato powder in Homestead Bulk Foods' beef bouillon powder. If you like making your own seasonings/mixes, having dry tomato on hand will be a game changer!

If you want to get super basic, here are the ratios for making a tomato paste, a tomato sauce or a tomato juice. Tomato paste: 2-3 parts water to 1 part powder. Tomato sauce: 4 parts water to 1 part powder. Tomato juice: 6 parts water to 1 part powder. If any of these ratios are too thick, you can thin it down to a desired consistency. Dry tomato powder could be a good thing for your kitchen if you are limited on space. It will take less room on your shelf then your jars of canned tomato juice etc. will!

Matt and Allie Baker are the owners and operators of That One Farmer Guy, LLC, a USDA Certified Organic vegetable farm specializing in salad mix and a variety of seasonal vegetables.
