🐑 🐄 It’s fair week in Hancock County!
While the rides, food and funnel cakes might get a lot of attention, there’s something pretty special happening in the barns, too.
For months, local kids have been raising, caring for and learning from their livestock projects. They’ve put in the early mornings, the long days and plenty of hard work, and next Monday, they’ll have the opportunity to bring that work to the Junior Fair Livestock Sale.
The Hurdwell family knows just how meaningful that experience can be. Katie’s kids have raised and shown livestock over the years, and those fair days have created memories and lessons that stick with them long after the fairgrounds empty.
And the best part? You don’t have to be a livestock buyer to support these kids.

At Hurdwell, there’s something pretty special about seeing the full circle of agriculture: a kid raises the animal, the community invests in that kid, and the animal can eventually make its way back to a local table.
So while you’re at the fair this week, take a little extra time in the livestock barns. Ask a kid about their project. Cheer them on. And if you can, find a way to support them.
