My dad has always been one of those "macho men" — the kind who thinks emotions are weak and anything girly is disgusting. Last year when I broke my leg and tried to tell him what happened, he literally cut me off and said, "I don't want to hear your girly stuff."
Last week, my little brother and I were playing Fortnite when he suddenly asked me, "What are periods like? One of my friends just got hers and I don't want to make it awkward for her."
My heart melted. I explained everything to him gently. But then my dad yelled from the other room, "Shut up! No one wants to hear something so disgusting. It's not a man's place to know that stuff."
Before I could even react, my little brother looked at him and simply said:
"No wonder mom left you."
The whole house went silent. My dad walked away without saying a word.
In that moment, I realized my brother might look like our dad, but he's nothing like him inside. And that gives me so much hope. 🧡
