🎉 Big News: Asheville’s Own Chef Ashleigh Shanti Wins 2025 James Beard Award!

We’re thrilled to celebrate Chef Ashleigh Shanti, owner of Good Hot Fish, who just brought home a James Beard Media Award in the U.S. Foodways category for her debut cookbook, Our South: Black Food Through My Lens.

The book explores Shanti’s culinary roots through five regional chapters- Backcountry, Lowcountry, Midlands, Lowlands, and Homeland, each representing a piece of her story, heritage, and journey as a chef.

📍 Based right here in Asheville, Good Hot Fish blends the nostalgic spirit of traditional fish camps with Black Appalachian and Southern influences, earning national attention for its bold, soulful flavors.

Did y’all hear?!?! Root Down Food Truck is back!!!

was devastated by Helene, with both the food truck and commissary at destroyed by the French Broad River. But Dano and company are now back with regular hours at ’s Swannanoa location (204 Whitson Ave), which itself just reopened!!!

To celebrate this milestone for both businesses we will be creating a small batch of Root Down Naner Puddin’ Ice Cream to be launched on Friday, March 14th exclusively at our Black Mountain location! More details to follow.

Despite all that this year has thrown our way, we have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season.

We are thankful to work with organizations feeding our community like , , , and .

We are thankful for the local farmers like , , , , and so many more who supply us with produce throughout the season.

We are thankful for our amazing customers who have made the choice to support our locally owned and operated produce company.

And we are exceptionally thankful for our hardworking staff that make it all happen day in and day out.

We will be closed this Thursday November 28th so our staff can celebrate Thanksgiving. We will reopen on Friday November 29th with our normal delivery and warehouse schedule.
