Peace Gardens & Market

Peace Gardens & Market The Peace Gardens are a destination where community is built. Building on the agricultural and entrepreneurial legacy of E.W.

Located in the Burton Street Community of West Asheville, we are an eclectic collection of gardens, art, and related items...a place to find plants, produce, Black history, inspiration, and a deeper connection. Pearson, the founder of the historically African American Burton Street Community were the gardens are located, we have cultivated a creative commons focused on art, environmental stewardsh

ip, and social enterprise. The gardens are home to vegetable beds, native plants, multiple art installations, performance areas, a library/classroom, outdoor oven, greenhouse, micro-store, maker spaces, and more. The space has given birth to multiple enterprises, including local businesses and non-profits. We believe that a thriving community depends on all of us, so we engage youth, elders, neighbors, and visitors in the mission of creating a culture of sustainability that's inclusive and just.

Our Message in a Bottle installation at the garden invites the community to put a message out into the universe.

We have recently been in the process of documenting years of messages, and going through the notes has been an emotional experience!

Swipe to see some of what our community wanted to get off their chest and tell the world. These notes have reminded me that love, compassion, and gratitude are what keep us going.

What if a garden could be a catalyst for connection, creativity, and community growth?

Peace Gardens & Market is an urban micro-farm and art garden rooted in the Burton Street community of West Asheville.

Since 2003, Peace Gardens has grown into much more than a garden. It is a place to grow food, create art, learn, gather, connect, and build community.

Come visit, learn, and grow with us!
