We had a rousing good time today for a salsa tasting & local flower arranging competition as part of 2026 Ashtabula County Local Food Festival . The competition was graciously hosted at Riverbend Hotel and Suites, Trademark Collection by Wyndham and managed by members of the Ashtabula County Master Gardeners . Our three professional judges were Debra Grim, owner Fitzgerald's W**e Bar Restaurant & Shop , Paris Wolfe, food and lifestyle writer for Cleveland.com, and Maria Jukic, Maria Jukic for Congress candidate for U.S. House of Representatives.

10 salsa entries were tasted, evaluated and rated on appearance and color, aroma, texture and consistency, flavor balance, and finally ingredients quality & freshness. The professional judges chose as the winner, Three Sisters Cafe with comments beautiful, colorful and great combo of sweet and spicy, and yummy, love the crunch. In the People's Choice salsa tasting almost 30 people cast votes and Kevin Vencill received the most. Congratulations Kevin!

In our Local Flower Arrangement competition we had five extremely beautiful boquets made from all locally grown blooms. 106 people cast votes the People's Choice winner and our three professional judges also weighed in on the Judges Winner. Both sets of judges came to the same conclusion. Tom Roberts won both with a great arrangement that embraced the spirit of the day, incorporating broccoli and a pepper in with his flowers! Congratulations Tom!

Riverbend Hotel and Suites, Trademark Collection by Wyndham will be our gracious hosts for the salsa competition and local flower competition commencing at 10 a.m. this Sunday, September 6th. Join in the festivities from 10-4.

We're excited to be a part of the Annual Ashtabula Local Foods Festival. The Salsa competition will commence in our MAIN LOBBY. We're looking forward to seeing everyone!
