The last few boards....
Yesterday we went and gathered up some of the remaining lumber that had been stored overhead in the rafters of the barn for decades. Soon, that barn and that farm will only be a memory.
My grandpa and great grandpa started K & D Saunders Sawmill somewhere around 1980. Over the years, if they cut a particularly high grade board they would stack it in the rafters of the barn for future use. My grandpas house is completely built from lumber that they harvested, sawed, planed, sanded, and polyurethaned.
There's so much gorgeous lumber that we gathered up yesterday. From Hemlock, to cedar, to Walnut, to sassafras, cherry, oak and more.
You won't find much lumber like this around anymore. My dad has plans for it. It doesn't look like much now unless you know what you're looking at. But soon, it will be made into gorgeous items for your home. We hope that once we get those items made, that you'll take them home and cherish them. Pass them along in your family. There's a little piece of my family history in each board and a piece of Appalachian history as well. I can't wait to see what he creates and I hope that you'll love them!
