🌿 Why Wednesday

Why do ingredients matter so much to us?

Our journey didn’t begin because we wanted to start a business.

It began because we wanted to know what was in the products we were bringing into our home.

Long before it became a trend, we started paying closer attention to ingredient labels for our family’s health. The more we learned, the more questions we asked. We wanted to understand what we were using every day and make more informed choices about what we kept in our home.

That created a two-fold challenge.

We needed products we felt good about using, but there weren’t many options readily available. And the few we could find were often far beyond what we could afford or they were being bought out by companies with different values and ever-changing ingredient lists.

So, we started making our own.

Nearly every product you’ll find at Deeded Oaks was born from a need our own family had first. We didn’t sit down and ask, “What should we sell?” We asked, “What do we need?”

A household cleaner we could trust. A body butter that worked the way we wanted it to. A hydrosol we couldn’t find anywhere else. A room spray made with ingredients we felt good about bringing into our home. A soap with 3 ingredients.

And after every identified need, we get to work.

Over the years, there has been refining, learning, and experimenting because if it isn’t good enough for our home, it isn’t good enough for yours.

That’s why you’ll often hear us say we use thoughtfully chosen ingredients. We don’t follow trends or create products just to fill a shelf. They meet a need. Every ingredient has been selected with intention because our family uses these products too.

At the end of the day, that’s what Deeded Oaks is all about. 🤎

🌿 How We Make It Monday: Hydrosol🌿

If you had told me a few years ago that I'd have a distillery sitting in my house, I probably would've laughed... and to be honest, as a girl living in the 'Bible Belt', I still laugh at the thought of it each time I pull it out on the counter 😂

But here we are. So let me explain.

This product actually came to life last summer after I went for a facial with a friend. She asked if I'd ever tried using a hydrosol before moisturizing and suggested a brand she loved. When we looked it up, it was out of stock, so she said, "You know... you have everything you need to make your own."

She was right.

Well... sort of.

I pieced together a makeshift setup and distilled my very first batch of lemon balm hydrosol. It wasn't fancy, but it worked. And after using it for just a few days, I was hooked.

The only problem? My homemade setup left a lot to be desired. So I started researching, upgraded my equipment, and now every bottle is distilled right here in small batches.

The ingredient list couldn't be simpler:
🍃 Fresh Herbs (Lemon Balm or Basil are my favorites due to their natural properties and scent profile!).
💧 Water.

That's it. It's one of the most underrated products in the line up if you ask me.

One of my favorite ways to use it is to mist it onto clean skin before applying our Whipped Tallow Body Butter. Damp skin helps lock in moisture, and the hydrosol gives the butter a beautiful base to absorb into.

While refrigeration is not required, I like to keep a bottle chilled and use it after coming in from a hot Summer's day.

Sometimes the best products aren't the ones you planned to make. They're the ones that begin with a conversation, a little curiosity, and the willingness to learn something new.

And that's exactly how this one came to be. 🤎

We have restocked the farmstand today (7/20) with the latest batch of Lemon Balm hydrosol for those of you who can't wait to try it.

It’s already been an eventful morning around the farm. Our first butterfly hatched. 🦋 She’s currently at the top drying its wings and we’ll release her later today when she’s ready. While we were out, we noticed some more caterpillars enjoying the dill. Yall already know what we did. Two jars later and we have 2️⃣0️⃣ more caterpillars ready to be loved on inside. 🐛

The farmstand will be restocked with household essentials as soon as we see what the thunder has planned and there’s still a sampling of tomatoes, cukes, and several dozen ears of corn!

The garden is full of surprises this morning! 😍

Don’t head our way for farmstand shopping just yet. After several days of rain, we’re spending the day on some overdue clean up in the garden and we’ll restock the farmstand for the weekend asap.

🌿 Why Wednesday

Every business has a name. Ours has a story.

Before Deeded Oaks Farm Company was ever a business, it was simply home.

I grew up on this land. I spent countless hours swinging from the branches of the trees, sitting beneath the shade of the oaks shucking corn with my grandparents, and watching the seasons change from the same fields my family has cared for for seven generations.

No matter where you stand on our property, those oaks seem to find their way into the view. They’ve quietly watched over hard seasons and joyful ones. They’ve become as much a part of our family’s story as the land itself.

As the land has passed through generations, a story has gone with it. That there is a simple but powerful promise in the deed: two oak trees on the property were never to be cut down. And with every generation, another promise was unknowingly passed down….to do everything we can to protect this land, those trees, and the family heritage they represent.

When it came time to name our business, we knew we didn’t want just a name. We wanted something that honored the legacy we’d been given and reminded us of the responsibility we carry forward.

Deeded Oaks isn’t just the name of our business—it’s the standard we try to live by.

Those protected oak trees remind us that some things are worth preserving. They inspire us to steward this land well, choose our ingredients thoughtfully, create products with intention, and leave something meaningful for the next generation.

Every bottle we fill, every bar we cut, every product we grow is rooted in that purpose.

And even today, some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen end with those oak trees standing proudly in the foreground. I catch my mind wondering what they looked like hundreds of years ago. To me, they’re more than trees. They’re a reminder of where we’ve come from, what we’ve been entrusted with, and the legacy we’re working to preserve.

Our hope has always been that Deeded Oaks would be more than a place to buy handcrafted products. We want it to be a reflection of the values we’ve inherited and the hope we’re trying to cultivate.

Now you know why it’s “named” Deeded Oaks. 🤎🌳

🌿 How We Make It Monday 🌿
This Week: Anti-Bug Spray

Summer evenings in Alabama mean more time outside… and more time keeping little unwanted visitors away. 🦟

When we created our Anti-Bug Spray, our goal was simple: create an outdoor essential made with thoughtfully chosen, plant-based ingredients that we can not only depend on, but that we feel good using around our family.

This blend starts with distilled water and witch hazel, then combines six essential oils chosen for their fresh, herbal, and naturally outdoor-inspired aromas:

🌱 Citronella
🌿 Rosemary
🍋 Lemongrass
🌲 Tea Tree
💜 Lavandin
🌿 Myrtle

We love hearing where all you’ve taken yours this Summer. We think it’s perfect for tossing in your bag before garden days, porch evenings, farm chores, and outdoor adventures and from the stories we’ve heard, you do too! 🫶🎒

🍅 Let’s talk about possibility for a minute…

Fresh salsa for taco night. Thick slices for BLTs. Homemade pasta sauce. A simple tomato sandwich with a little mayo, salt, and pepper. Ketchup, BBQ sauce, tomato paste, juice for roasted tomatoes, pizza, canning for winter… the list just keeps going.

I love seeing all the different ways a single ingredient can bring people together around the table.

The garden has been generous, and the farmstand is full of tomatoes today. We have
Cherokee purple, ponderosa pink, beefsteaks, Roma, San Marzano, and more waiting to find their way into your favorite summer recipes.

You’ll also find today’s fresh cuts and a restock of our current customer favorite - bug spray! 🦟
