🍉🥒 Happy “Sneak a Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Day!”
Technically… this doesn’t work for us.
It’s always us doing the vegetable sneaking.

In our defense—we didn’t stop at zucchini. This week we left a watermelon and a few peaches too. Because around here, porch surprises taste like summer. 💛

🌟 We’re honored and deeply grateful 🌟

Goodness Gracious Grocery Food Co-op has been nominated for the 2025 Up and Coming Cooperative Force Award, and we’re feeling so thankful to be recognized among co-ops across the country, building powerful, community-led change.

This nomination is about YOU. Our neighbors, supporters, pledge members, pop-up shoppers, volunteers, and vision-holders. Your belief in this co-op, even when we had fewer than 30 members, helped us grow to over 175 members strong over a two-state area and showed that our community is ready for a food co-op that reflects our values.

Even when Hurricane Helene hit us hard, you showed up again. You proved that cooperation isn’t just an idea, it’s a way of life.

The winner will be announced at the Up & Coming Food Co-op Conference on Sept. 13 in Kalamazoo, MI, but no matter what, we’ve already won something priceless: a strong, connected, unstoppable community.

Bonus points if you can explain to consumers how to pick a ripe one!

This isn’t going how I planned.

The yard farms are scattered across four counties in two states.

Some weeks, we have nothing.
The next? We’re flooded with tomatoes, zucchini, and herbs.

It’s not neat or not pretty.
But I can respect what it’s becoming.

We shared with our neighbors, filled a small restaurant order, and still have enough produce to feed 100 people on Friday for our 100th birthday party.

It’s messy, but it’s working.

Until next time,
Cassandra

I said I despise small beginnings but truth is, they still feed us.

Today’s harvest may not be enough to fill a market, but it’s enough to fill a few plates, start a few conversations, and remind us that food shared is power multiplied.

Farm Your Yard—yard farms and porch plots, keep showing up. And that matters.

Thank you to everyone who brings something to the table, even when it doesn’t look like much, it’s everything.

Two of our amazing yard farmers are celebrating birthdays at the he end of July and you know what that means — it’s time for a farm feast!

Our mission? Make a beautiful meal using only produce and meats from our friends and family. We’re kicking things off with cherry tomatoes from one of our Charleston partners and decided to dust off our rolling pins and try our hand at a tomato galette.

First slice of practice:

Tomatoes from Charleston, crust made with love. Getting ready to celebrate our yard farmers the only way we know how—community-grown and homemade. 🍅🥧

I’ll be honest—I usually despise small beginnings. I like big moves, clear wins, and fast impact.

But this little harvest from our yard farms humbled me.

It’s not a lot. We’re not ready to sell to the outside world—not even outside the neighborhood. But it’s real. It’s food we grew ourselves. And it’s enough to replace a few things we’d normally buy at the store.

And that means more that I realized…

Until next time,
Cassandra
