Our Story
Sylvester's began as a small fish market in 1944. The market was built by a local fisherman, Tom Shute, and known as Shute's Seafood. In 1978, Shute's Seafood was bought by Fred and Steve Sylvester and renamed "Sylvester's". They expanded operations and added on the dining room that so many customers are familiar with today. Nearly twenty years later, Bill and Bernadette Selgrath purchased the restaurant and opened in May 2002. 18 years later, the two are still at it, serving quality seafood to Avalon beachgoers. Sylvester's is still known for it's casual open-air dining room, which is perfect for large groups and families. The dining area can accomodate groups up to 40! The seafood is always fresh and most of it is sourced from New Jersey and Delaware. Sylvester's fun, family friendly atmosphere makes for a classic Jersey Shore experience. Stop in and say hello!
