It may have felt like fall this morning but it's still peach season! We currently have Beaumont peaches available. This peach is sweet and extremely freestone - the pit almost falls out! Perfect for canning and freezing, or just eating fresh.

We also have ginger gold apples and quarts of tomatoes, potatoes, and green beans.

Stand update:

We're in the last few days of Red Haven. Next we will be picking the sweetest peaches we grow, Scarlet Prince. Scarlet Prince is a popular peach in the south but grows very well here too. You will not find many (any?) other local growers who grow them. We will have them on our stand in a day or 2.

Ginger Gold apples will be available starting Thursday.

Stand Update:

In addition to Flaming Fury peaches, we have Easternglo nectarines, BuenOs flat peaches, and white-fleshed peaches by the quart. We also have green beans, pickles, and maple syrup.

Don't ask my wife how to know when a peach is ready to be picked. She got fired from peach picking 2 minutes in. You can't just pick every peach you see, Nicole! The green ones need to hang. As enjoyable as peach picking is in mid August heat; in hindsight, I think her poor performance may have been deliberate. Well played, Nicole, well played.

How do you know when a peach is ready to be picked? As a peach ripens, the part facing the sun gets a reddish blush and the part not exposed to sun (ground color) turns from green to yellow. The best way to tell if a peach is ripe is by looking for a yellow ground color. Some varieties will have a slight green color to the background even when it is ready to pick.
