I’m not sure folks realize how lucky we are to be eating any strawberries this season. This has been an incredibly unusual spring/summer and extremely difficult for local farmers. A quick google search found these facts:

“In Ohio and Michigan, 2026 strawberry crop losses range from 50% to a complete 100% total loss for many local farms. The USDA Risk Management Agency categorized the damage to perennial crops in both states as "catastrophic". It was triggered by an unusually warm early spring that forced plants to bloom weeks ahead of schedule, followed by severe, late-April and mid-May freezes that destroyed the fragile open flowers”

Not to mention the unusual amount of rain we’ve experienced this June.

Blustery days are some of the best days to get down to the market—just make sure to have your rain jacket! But truly, this is a very “Pure Michigan” experience—not just the wind and rain, but also an abundance of local produce and farmers/bakers/producers from the region providing for this community!

Please stop on by today and show these hardworking vendors your support! 🍑

Rain or shine at the Elberta Farmers Market Thursday 8-12. Unfortunately the weather does mean no strawberries for market- but hopefully some cherry tomatoes 🍅 and some of the seasons first slicers can help make up for it. Salad mix, basil, pea shoots, radishes, cucumbers, green onions & garlic scapes. There’s still flavors of summer to capture despite of the weather.

Thursdays we’re at Penfold Park 8-12 for Elberta Farmers Market, see you there.

Farmer says more strawberries will be ready when Mother Nature says they’ll ready.
