Miller’s Northwood Market—a short climb from Onekama on M-22, the Northwood Highway. Miller's Northwood Market has offered locally grown produce and Michigan made products to its loyal customers for over twenty years. They are committed to this mission as they move forward with

a five-year expansion project begun this spring. Look for building renovations, brand development, expanded product lines and a Web page with ecommerce. They are proud to launch first their Gourmet Take-Away Delicatessen featuring house-made, grown-on-site ingredients. Chet and Bon are joined by their children and grandchildren this year with an increased enthusiasm for the possibilities our community offers. They will continue to serve their customers with the extended family feeling they have always provided at the Market. The building’s original framework and open-air concept remain, with the addition some modern conveniences and outdoor seating. Your continued support is appreciated and you are invited to celebrate with them the latest evolution of an M22 icon. Chester and Bonnie Miller purchased Miller’s Fruit Stand from Eleanor Miller in 1992. The business became Miller’s Northwood Market and the fruit stand became a trading post for local commodities. They offered fruit, as always, and added products each year. They celebrated the local creative community in their gift shop which included pottery, paintings, photography, wood workings, paper goods and Petoskey Stone jewelry from local artists. Chester built a fruit stand for Martin and Eleanor in the 1970s with the help of his younger siblings. Over the years, they offered fruit from the orchards, cider from the press and jam from Eleanor’s kitchen. Local products were added and Martin, Mr. Petoskey, offered Petoskey Stone Bolo Ties for the rock hounds. Martin and Eleanor Miller purchased this land in the early 1940's and established their fruit farm. While the farm grew, so did their family--14 children in all. The Fruit Stand began with a little wagon beside the road in 1951. Chester, the oldest, remembers their first customer. It was Mr. and Mrs. Clouse, their neighbors from down the road. Clouse paid Chet and said, "You know what I like better than peaches? More peaches."

Thank You to those who have admired our hanging geranium “bushes” this year.
Many have asked, “what’s the secret?”
Here’s the advice we can give you.
These baskets are like puppies or 2-year olds; they need attention.
We liquid-fertilize once weekly—prewetting the soil medium to avoid runoff; we water daily—considering ambient temperature and humidity; we deadhead spent blooms daily; and, finally, we rotate the baskets 180 degrees and swap their positions from post to post conversely biweekly.
It doesn’t hurt to have an Ornamental Horticulturist on staff, either. Go Green!
Good luck with YOUR planties; feel free to share your successes or failures—both will happen, no worries.
