I thought I could just plant a bunch of pretty flowers without a plan and figure the rest out as I went. 😂🌸

And honestly? Some of it worked. Some of it absolutely did not.

I just finished my first year of flower farming, and while I’m SO proud of what I built, there are definitely things I’d do differently if I could start over.

I learned that choosing flowers is only one part of the equation. When they bloom, how much they produce, how you use your space, and how everything works together matter WAY more than I realized going into year one.

So welcome to The Flower Farm Debrief. 🌱

I’m sharing the real lessons from my first season: what worked, what didn’t, what surprised me, and what I’m changing for year two.

If you’re dreaming about starting your own flower garden or flower farm, I hope these lessons help you save a little time, money, and frustration—and go into your first season feeling more prepared than I did.

No pretending I’ve got it all figured out. Just real experience, honest lessons, and figuring it out as I go.

🌸 Follow along if you’re planning your own flower garden for next year.

Let’s debrief!

Fall planting is officially DONE. 🌱👏🏻

And now I’m staring at all these flowers thinking… HOW DO I KEEP YOU ALIVE UNTIL SPRING?! 😂🫠

Last winter humbled me BIG TIME. I lost 300+ plants, and I am determined to learn from that experience this year.

Flower friends, especially my Zone 5/6 growers, I NEED YOU. What actually works? What do you wish you’d known before your first fall planting season?

Give me your best tips, your biggest lessons, and even the things you learned the hard way. I’m taking notes on ALL of it. 👇🏻🌸

Come along for the experiment… hopefully we’ll have a whole lot of spring blooms to show for it!

The frost has officially entered the chat. 🥶🌱

My flower season has been over for a few weeks, but now that the latest frost has finished off what was left, it’s time to turn these beds over and get ready for spring.

I’m trying fall planting this year, and while I’m SO excited about the flowers we could have next spring, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little terrified.

Because planting them is one thing… keeping them alive through a Nebraska winter is a whole different story. 😂

I’ve already started these seedlings, so we’re taking the risk and learning along the way. Low tunnels are next on my to-do list!

I’m sharing the real journey here: what works, what doesn’t, and all the things I’m still figuring out as I grow this little backyard flower farm.

Have you tried fall planting flowers before? Tell me what survived your winter because I need all the advice I can get. 😂🌸

Where have I been? 🌴

We stepped away for a week to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and enjoy some much-needed time together. No flower-farm updates, no trying to squeeze in one more thing. Just being present and making memories.

Sometimes you need that reminder that the life you’re working so hard to build is also meant to be enjoyed.

Now we’re home, and it’s time to get back to the flowers. 🌱 So much to share with you this fall, and I can’t wait to bring you along!

Okay… seeing Year One all in one place hits a little differently. 🌸

A backyard, a lot of seeds, a whole lot of learning, and somehow… a real flower business.

It wasn’t perfect. But damn, I’m proud of it.

Now let’s talk about what actually worked. 👀

I started a backyard flower farm and here’s what actually happened…

Now it’s a flower farm, a business, and a whole lot of lessons.

Was Year One perfect? Absolutely not. 😂
But I’m really freaking proud of what I built.

Year One recap starts now!

Follow along for the wins, fails, and lessons learned from year one.

I thought I was just growing a few flowers. 🌸

And somehow, one year later, this little backyard has become a flower farm, a business, and something I’m pretty damn proud of.

The final market was supposed to be this weekend… but the market got cancelled.

So we’re pivoting. 😂

I still have flowers, so I’m opening up a limited Friday Farm Pickup in Bennington.

And then it’s officially time to close out Year One and get REAL about it — what worked, what didn’t, what I’d do differently, and everything I learned along the way.

One small backyard flower farm can do big things. 🌱
