Not only are these cinnamon pickles soaking in brine, we are making dill pickles and bread and butter pickles today.,..it's pickle season for sure

So my dad always told us "idle hands are the devil's workshop". That was a saying I didn't understand, but I did understand working on a farm! Work all day and at night we canned and froze what we harvested .
When my stove has gotten quiet for the day, I love to do a few crafts.

Look at the amazing pastries I found on the internet using Grands biscuits and pie filling. While this isn't my picture, I have used our jams and pie fillings to do this before, only mine are quite as fancy looking but I'm trying to improve.
We make many jams that will work so well as well as Pie fillings... And our cheesecake jams make these absolutely scrumptious!!!
I love going beyond biscuits, and toast and jelly!

Well my GIANT cucumbers have been soaking in lime water, today they are soaked in the next magic elixir to make them crunchy. Tonight I'll be making the brine to soak in for 3 days...so they are moving right along.

Well, we started on CINNAMON PICKLES this morning. 5 days from now they will be finished. But 3 cases are already sold ,soooo not many will go on the shelf...

When these enormous cucumbers are finished, 5 days from now, they will be the most delicious and pretty cinnamon pickles.
When Sweet Mike's mom asked me if I could make her some, she was 92. I had never even heard of them! But willing to try for her, she goes to the back of the house and comes back with a small, yellowed piece of paper.
7 years later, Mrs Cook still enjoys it when I make them and being able to share them with the people at assisted living. And when she found it it u had won a ribbon at the NC STATE Fair for them, she beamed with pride.
They are beautiful on a pickle tray,
chopped with walnuts in chicken salad is phenomenal
Paired with cottage cheese makes a refreshing lunch
Right out of the jar they are crunchy and delicious too!

So our plan for today....
Tomato Jam cooking on the extra eye. Since it simmers 2-3 hours
Pickled okra.... Sweet Mike set up a second canner. To avoid siphoning, you have to turn the canner off, remove the lid and let it cool for at least 5 minutes before removing the jars. So another batch can be cooking while that's cooling. About a 2 hour process
Cucumbers peeled and soaking for cinnamon pickles. They are a 5 day process so today is the 1st
Sassy Salsa... 2 boxes of tomatoes= 2-3 hours, start to finish
And lastly Cowboy Candy.
Then it's rest time.... WHEW another 10 hour day but it is the season🥰🥰🥰🥰
