Half Acre Short We're half an acre short to be a farm, but that doesn't stop us from raising tasty chicken.

It's a really lovely day out! The hens are upping their lay and the egg wall grows again. We came to the realization that the girls are almost two years old and we will have to start our second group of egg layers here soon. As time goes on, our current flock will live in genteel retirement. We absolutely love our golden comets and will most likely stay with this breed.

My seedlings are sprouting nicely and are getting their first taste of the great outdoors now that it's warmer. Zelda the barn cat LOOKS like she's in guard mode, but she's in "when mom looks away I may eat these mode".

We will be ordering our first batch of broilers (Cornish cross) in the next couple of days. If you're interested in whole chicken (roast or in pieces) let us know.

Almost missed out on the always tasty Strites donut cause the child didn't see the the large trailer after spotting the small sign....

Child got a delicious cinnamon sugar donut and I got a scrumptious lemon filled blueberry one.

Hello Shenandoah Valley! It's coming up to that time where we start preparing for chickens!

About what we do.

We raise Cornish Cross chickens in batches of 25. From chick to slaughter is roughly 8 weeks. We shoot for that but they sometimes last a little longer depending on weather. The only antibiotics they receive is through their chick feed and after that, they are given feed with grain from the Paige County Co-op (that is sourced through local farms).

They live in tractors that are rotated along the property to make sure they're on fresh grass through the process of growing. We keep track of our chickens growth and health weekly. They average between five and seven pounds.

Whole chickens are $20 and further processed is $30.

One of Kiryn's hens (Warrior) had bumble foot on both dang feet. She's rocking her purple chicken shoes and out with the rest of the flock again. We will be checking all the feet this Sunday. Hopefully not going to have half the flock rockin kicks.

I finally have ~business cards~ I am feeling so girl boss right now 🫑 ps: I haven’t been super active on here because I’ve been spending every free moment (joyously) making tons of crochet/art pieces for my first craft market (the Featival of Leaves in Front Royal VA on 10/14) 🍁🍁
