Some fun facts about each brand are:
1. Rowntree's hit a home run in 1879 when they hired Frenchman August Claude Gaget, who was responsible for inventing Fruit Pastilles AND Fruit Gums!
2. In 1983, Aero had a problem...There was a nasty heatwave, causing the chocolate to melt, thus no bubbles!
3. While Snickers were invented in the United States (and they were named after Frank & Ethel Mars' horse, Snickers), when they hit the United Kingdom in 1968, they were called Marathon because the people in charge thought Snickers was too close to the British slang for underwear, knickers 🤣!

Looking for a classic, English sharp cheddar? Well, look no further! Team UKG has just stocked the Barber's 1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar, and it is deliciously perfect! Aged at 24 months/2 years, this vintage English cheddar is milky & velvety, with a hint of sweetness for easy enjoyment. While there is a slight crispy flavour, it does come from real crystals, so there is nothing fake about it! Why is 1833 in the cheese's name? This is a reference to Barber's establishment in 1833, when Daniel Barber started making cheese on his farm located in Somerset!

Thank goodness! McVitie's CARAMEL Digestives have made their way BACK TO UK GOURMET! One of the many reasons we love these are their uses and versatility...From S'mores to dunking them in your hot beverage, to just eating them plain...You cannot go wrong! Some people talk of how great their dunkability is! The caramel helps the biscuit stay together and not disintegrate into the mug!

Here are four fun facts about McVitie's and Digestives!:
1. Originally, the digestive biscuit was invented in 1839 by Scottish doctors to help the digestive system. While recipes of people(s) own take on the biscuit appeared in places like medical journals (ie, The Lancet) over time, in 1876, biscuit-maker company, Huntley and Palmers, made and advertised their own take on the biscuit.
2. In 1892, Scotsman Alexander Grant created the McVitie's Digestive that we know and love today! Not only that, but the recipe is top-secret! Good idea!
3. According to The British Shoppe, more than 71 MILLION packets of McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are consumed annually!
4. Their Caramel Digestive was first invented in 1999!

Read more about Belton Farm here!: https://www.beltonfarm.co.uk/about-us/

Red Leicester has its rich history in Leicestershire, England, in the 1600s, when nearby farmers made Stilton cheese (that cheese has its origins in more than one location, including Leicestershire). The story goes that they did not want to waste the leftover milk from making Stilton, so they decided to put it into another cheese, and that cheese became Red Leicester! Believe it or not, their new "Leicestershire Cheese" was a faded colour at the time! By the 1700s, cheesemakers began adding annatto, a natural from the achiote tree's seeds, to make the cheese orange and more noticeable. This idea worked because cheese buyers saw the cheese and thought it was milkier and a little fancier, especially since milk purity was more hit-or-miss back in the day!

The star of the show today is Lorne; here is the history of Cameron's (who makes it)!
The history of Cameron's begins with Cameron's Butchers, a Scottish butcher established by the Cameron family in 1932 in Paisley, Scotland. Then, in 1951, a big change happened...Brothers Bill & Frank Cameron introduced their family's business to the United States. By 1955, the brothers started their Scottish butchery in Kearny, New Jersey & named it Cameron's Market. Cameron's Market was important for this community because there's a prevalent Scottish-Irish population. Eighteen years later, Cameron's British Foods was opened in Florida!

Did you know that Double Gloucester cheese with onion and chives is also known as "Cotswold" cheese? What we love about this cheese is that it's not too hard or soft, it is just right! It is also versatile, as it pairs well with foods as simple as a cheese toastie to as complex as a lamb or pork chop! Of course, you can always consume it plain, too! Another cool fact about this yummy cheese is that it is known as the "Pub Cheese" because it is famously consumed with crusted bread and a dark & heavy ale! Sounds pretty great to us 😂!

Somerdale had this to say about its history.: "We’ve been flying the flag for great British cheese since 1990. What started in a townhouse in Taunton has grown into a thriving business exporting award-winning cheese to over 50 countries around the world. We’re proud to work with some of the UK and Ireland’s best producers — many of them family-run and steeped in tradition — to bring high-quality, great-tasting cheese to major retailers like Whole Foods in the US and Coles in Australia. With nearly 35 years under our belt, our team is based just outside Wellington in Somerset, where we handle everything from cold storage to global logistics. Each week, our cheeses head out across the world — including regular shipments to New York — making Somerdale the leading exporter of British cheese to the USA. Our focus is on flavour, heritage, and innovation. Whether it’s farmhouse cheddar, classic Stilton, or new blends for changing tastes, we work closely with our partners to deliver something truly special. We’re also proud to have received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade — twice."

BACK IN STOCK!: Ireland's Cooleeney Farm's Tipperary Brie is a soft, creamy, and delicious cheese that just about any soft cheese-lover would enjoy! This cheese is not too strong, but it surely is milky and buttery! Additionally, there is a hint of earthiness to it, too! In the texture field, Tipperary Brie has a crust made of white mould & is slightly powdery. When it is 8-10 weeks old, it is fully matured, and thus, the yellow paste turns soft!

If you're a Blue Stilton lover, then today's your lucky day! Team UKG has recently stocked it for your enjoyment! Clawson Farms' Blue Stilton is a classic and tasty blue cheese with a heavy history in the United Kingdom, particularly in the eastern part. Legally, the English government is very particular as to who, but mainly where Blue Stilton is made. Why? The UK government, in order to preserve authenticity and history, and to ensure every Blue Stilton meets strict standards...There's an official term for this type of ruling... "Protected Designation of Origin", otherwise known as PDO!

While others have been cited as the beginning of Blue Stilton cheese, Leicestershire's Frances Pawlett/Paulet has been credited with inventing the Stilton that we know and love today in the 1720s. By 1726, Cambridge man Richard Bradley made a recipe for Stilton. The first person to officially sell Blue Stilton cheese was Cooper Thornhill at his Bell Inn, located in Stilton, Huntingdonshire, and the rest is history!
