We're trying to keep [margins down], taking a profit cut,” said Grewal. “Because this is our local community, and we want to help the best we can. That's all I can do at the moment. We're trying our best.”
She’s found that expensive fuel tends to keep people at home, in turn, driving down in-store traffic, which is the more significant source of revenue for her business.
“When the gas prices are cheaper, we are better off,” she said. “Because then we got a lot more people [who] come through, buy a lot more stuff, versus just have barely [any] money to fill up their truck.”
Grewal knows there’s a story behind every sale.
“People come in and they share their stories, and, you know, even their personal lives,” she said. “It's just nice to be part of this community, and be here just sometimes, even to listen [and] forget about the business perspective.”
