Ivy’s juice from our produce fueled our harvest today! (this time it was the broccolini stems that we recently cut out to make room for beets, along with ginger and lime!)

We also had a team lunch at Taco Billy as our last time all together before Kara heads off to her new adventure in Raleigh. We will miss her! I am so grateful for this team and the gifts that each of them bring.

August is the toughest month on the farm and I am proud of these ladies for working hard and keeping positive attitudes through the long, hot days.

Come see us at the Black Mountain Tailgate Market tomorrow for fresh, organic produce!

Beautiful harvest today for the Black Mountain Tailgate Market Saturday from 9-12 pm. It is TOMATO TIME, y’all. Tomato sandwiches, pesto with cherry tomatoes and burrata, salsa, tomato sauce… now is the time to enjoy these delicious fruits at their peak! Stock up on tomatoes to preserve for those January days when pulling out a jar of roasted cherry tomatoes from the freezer or homemade tomato basil sauce from the pantry will transport you right back to sweet summer.

We can’t wait to see you at the market for certified organic, delicious and nutritious fruits and veggies.

Turning “trash” into treasure!

Ivy made us a beautiful and delicious juice from what is in season on the farm as we were clearing out spring crops- check out the color in this juice made from the roots and stems of Swiss Chard plants! I have always been curious about eating chard roots, which are cousins of beets. After we cleared a row of chard, Ivy took them home and added some other fruits and veggies to make this delicious juice!

This week, she took home our ugly kale and parsley and made a delightful green juice.

I feel healthier already!

We try not to let anything go to waste on the farm- anything too ugly to sell or donate goes into our kitchens, to the chickens, or as a last resort, to the compost!

So grateful for the Red Scout Farm team! These hardworking women show up in heat, cold, rain, or snow to grow nutritious food with intention and integrity. They get stains on their hands from pruning tomatoes, dirt under their fingernails from planting kale, and aches in their muscles from carrying bins of beets or piles of weeds. They don’t complain. They show up and do what needs to be done. I am so incredibly grateful for this team!

We took some time last night to enjoy a summer dinner together around the table. We enjoyed great food, laughter, and conversation about things other than tomatoes (at least mostly… how can you not talk about delicious tomatoes this time of year?!).

Thank you, Claire, Ivy, Kara, and Riley, for being such great farmHERs!
