Bloomingfoods is a community-owned cooperative grocery store in Bloomington, Indiana since 1976. We promote healthy, high quality, sustainable, and environmentally-sound products at a fair price. Our commitment to sustainable agriculture, artisanal producers of local products, and delicious regional foods are a few of the things that set us apart. Our Ends Statement:
People in Bloomington and Sout

h Central Indiana will have…
• A market for local, fair and healthful products, produced with care for the land, animals, and future generations.
• A democratic cooperative-ownership model that provides meaningful employment and strengthens the community.
• A robust and sustainable local food economy with fair prices for producers and all owner-members.
• Access to education on food systems, cooperative values, and the interconnectedness of food, health, and the environment. About Cooperatives:
Cooperatives (Co-ops) are member-owned, member-governed businesses that operate for the benefit of their owner-members according to common principles agreed upon by the international cooperative community. Co-ops are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, cooperative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others. Co-ops are built on seven core principles:
• Voluntary and open membership
• Democratic member control
• Member economic participation
• Autonomy and independence
• Education, training and information
• Cooperation among cooperatives
• Concern for community

All Co-ops contain the following elements:
• Co-ops are owned and governed by their primary users (the owner-members).
• Co-ops are democratically governed (one owner-member, one vote).
• Co-ops are businesses, not clubs or associations.
• Co-ops adhere to internationally recognized principles.

📣 Owner-Members–still thinking about running for our Board of Directors? Well, you have more time to think about it and submit a candidate packet! The deadline to submit a candidate packet has been extended to Friday, June 5th!

🌱Reasons YOU should join our Board of Directors:

💙 Make a difference. Bloomingfoods is a non-profit co-op. That means that it is owned by its members, who in turn elect a board to provide oversight to the General Managers of the stores. If you care about the future prosperity of the organization, you can make a real difference by serving on the Board of Directors.

💙 Learn something new. It’s very rare that someone comes to the Bloomingfoods Board with experience in providing oversight to a grocery store. This is your chance to learn from the GMs what it takes to make Bloomingfoods successful and the Board’s role in achieving that success. Whether it’s understanding the co-op’s operating policies, reading financial reports, creating business plans, or following the latest health food trends, the board and staff share a useful and rewarding expertise.

💙 Stay informed. There’s no better way to know what’s going on at Bloomingfoods than to serve on the board. As the co-op grows and changes, you understand and contribute to those decisions.

💙 Build relationships. In addition to the board, you’ll become closer with staff and owner-members. You will be able to work with people who share your interest in the health and community goals of a special organization like Bloomingfoods.

💙 Financial rewards. Board members receive Bloomingfoods gift cards totaling $2,000+ per year.

Are you passionate about the future of Bloomingfoods? Do you have great ideas or business experience that you’d like to share with the Co-op? We are seeking candidates to fill four positions this fall.

💌 You can pick up a candidate packet at one of our Bloomingfoods locations or download it from our website. The deadline to submit your Candidate Packet has been extended to Friday, June 5th! For more information, visit www.bloomingfoods.coop/run-for-the-board (🔗 in bio)!
