Each year the Bossier Arts Council selects a member of the SBC area who is making significant contributions to their Community through their time, actions, talents and dedication. Over the past year, this man has been an integral part of the Bossier Arts Council maintaining its responsibility in overseeing the growth and cultural development of the East Bank District & Plaza, in which we reside.
Recently you’ve seen him in the 318 Forum Magazine celebrating a huge, community milestone and now we are so very proud to announce that the 2023 Mover and Shaker Award goes to...

Councilman Vince Maggio!

Vince Maggio is the District 5 City Council Member of Bossier City and Third-Generation Owner of Maggio Grocery, which just recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary of serving the Bossier Community. He comes from a lineage of Italian immigrants who came to America’s shore with a love of God, Life, Food, Family and a Strong Work Ethic. Fairly new to America, Sam and Mary Maggio, Vince’s grandparents, bought the store in 1923 and moved their family into the brick home behind it. The store has been a steadfast presence in the community ever since, offering not only groceries but also fishing equipment, camping supplies, medicine, and even RV rentals to create lasting memories for families. Born in 1961, Vince took over the everyday management of Maggio Grocery in 1985 and has continued to run it alongside his wife, Sharon Maggio.

Vince Maggio was brought up to respect and help his community, and for him, that begins and ends with Bossier City, Louisiana. Two years ago, Vince ran for and was elected to a seat on the Bossier City Council, now serving as the City Council representative for District 5 which includes the recently developed and continuously growing East Bank District. Maggio’s campaign platform was built on safety and infrastructure. As stated by Mr. Maggio, “I want to give back to my community. I was born in District 5. I live in District 5. I work in District 5. I’ve never left District 5.” Maggio backs up his commitment to his district with his actions, as he has organized cleanup efforts to keep trash out of the neighborhood and, through the years, has bought properties in the neighborhood to keep them from going dormant. One of those properties being CumberlandFarms — the urban garden down the street from the store.

In addition to spending six to seven days a week at Maggio Grocery, Vince co-founded Cumberland Farms with his longtime friend, Pastor Mark Rodie. Cumberland Farms is a community garden and outreach ministry for the people of the neighborhood surrounding Maggio Grocery. Cumberland Farms is situated on land that Vince’s grandfather originally owned. It is an extension of The Lovewell at Cumberland, whose expanded mission is to help people in the area move out of poverty.
