This year....The Coen Farm is being used by the Andrews Family Farm next door. Tanya is working for The Red Wagon Farm hoping to get some experience on a large, very established Farm. Please "Like" the Red Wagon Farm!

Right now we have a spectacular lettuce blend, spinach and radishes....Soon to come...3 kinds of kale, chard, beets, summer squash, cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, sweet peppers, okra and sunflowers!

Tony transplanting cukes....two days after this i sold all my cuke plants at the farmers market...2 days later....most of my cuke plants in the field died....ah, the life of a farmer...so, i sowed seeds where the dead plants were.....squash and cukes don't like to be transplanted...don't like their roots touched...plus, we've had crazy winds....broke many of them...i would have direct seeded them early, but instead started plants early in the hoop house because of the drought...didn't have water in the fields...oh, well!!

Water Today....finally! We'll be planting tons of starts out in the fields in the next couple of weeks....there's alot to do....Come on by...if you need something to do!

Due to the drought.....we will supposedly...finally be getting water in our ditch the end of next week of beginning of the following week! We will get it once a week, (last year it ran pretty much all day, every day), and it will most likely end completely around July 15th - first of August...Thus, we will have to greatly reduce what we can plant...nothing that matures in July or August or September.....I will try to grow tomatoes in the hoophouse where i have some access to city water though...That's life as a farmer!

Well, some of the irrigation ditches in the county have had water for a couple of weeks now. Our's (The North Boulder Farmer's Ditch) doesn't. I was told last week that we'd be getting it this week.....Then 2 days ago, I was told i may not get it for a month due to the drought. I thought our's was one of the oldest ditches in the county, and that gives you priority - so i didn't know why others had their water sooo early....Meanwhile, it's getting real old trucking water in a barrel on the back on my pickup, hooking up a hose, using gravity and taking 1/2 a day to water my spinach, radish, carrots and lettuce! So, i put a halt on the planting for now....Ah, the life of a farmer...
Well, i just found out that i should be getting water the middle of next week!!! Whew! I guess our ditch is 11th in priority....anyone interested in Boulder County Irrigation Ditch History....here it is: http://bcn.boulder.co.us/basin/ditchproject/?Home

All the irrigation ditches in Boulder County seem to have had water for a week or 2 by now.....except ours. Meanwhile, every other day....I'm trekking my water to the field to the radishes, lettuce, spinach and carrots with a barrel in the back of my truck, hooking up a hose and using a little gravity to get the job done (pics soon to come).....I have got some amazing volunteers this year...Thank God! But, i will gladly welcome more! Anyone got fridays off?? i'd love help with harvesting for Saturday's Longmont Farmer's Market
