Bowen Family Farm

Bowen Family Farm We operate a small farm and farm store where we produce, process, and sell pasture raised non GMO chicken and woodland raised pork.

Order online and pickup at our farmstand or stop by to shop! We are also a custom exempt and deer processor! We practice regenerative agriculture. We specialize in raising and processing pasture raised poultry, pastured eggs, baked goods from scratch, and also woodland raised pigs. Our Pasture Raised Poultry: At Bowen Family Farm, we own one of only six Poultry Exempt chicken processors in the st

ate of Georgia. This allows us to butcher and sell 20,000 birds per year and sell them right off of our farm! Our chickens are raised on grass and supplemented with high protein feed from a local feed mill. They are moved daily onto fresh grass. Our Woodland Raised Pork: We also raise woodland raised pork. Our pigs are trained to single strand electric fencing. They are moved throughout the wooded acreage on our property to new paddocks every week. They get to do what pigs were meant to by rooting up grubs, worms, and various bugs that they would naturally eat in the wild. This also disturbs the soil waking up seedbeds allowing a variety of plants to grow in the area that the pigs rooted. Our goal is not only to sell healthy, natural meat but also to document our experience in raising these animals. Please contact us if you have any questions or interest in our products.

WE PASSED!

Our farm processor is now a licensed retail facility!

This opens so many doors for us! We can now sell a variety of different items right off of our farm!

This basically turns our farm store and processor into an old fashioned grocery store!

Keep an eye on us as we add new items to our menu!

Thank you for your support and making this possible for our family!

We have another inspection Friday!

This license will allow us to do so much more! Like cure our own bacon, mix our own sausages, and offer so many more products!

As we grow, this license will also allow us to hand cut fresh meat and sell it fresh to you.

Basically, we will be an on farm butcher shop!

Our commitment:

We WILL NOT compromise on our practices to ensure that we have items in stock to sell.

What does that mean?

Everything that we offer will have either been raised by us or real verified local small farmers.

No meat from confinement operations.
No meat processed by commercial meat packers.
No store-bought anything will be offered.
HONEST LABELING!

That means that there may be times that we are out of a product or two. But alot of farming is seasonal for the most part. For example, you can't raise chickens on pasture in the dead of winter. We can try to stock up to get us through but can't promise to have chicken left in February every year.

Either way, if we are out of something, we are not going to start shopping food service companies just to have something to offer.

We like knowing what we are selling you. If we can't answer basic questions about it, we won't have it.

As a thank you to our loyal customers, we have just launched a Loyalty Program!

What is it?

For every $10.00 you spend when you order online, you get 1 FarmDollar! Once you spend $100.00 you will get 10% off your next purchase!

The points never expire and are only applicable to online orders right now.

I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate this and keep track of this with cash purchases. But for now, if you know what you want, visit our site, place an order, and we will have it ready for you to pickup.

We have more inventory online than we can currently put out in for farm stand.

Did you know that we are required by law to put the address of our farm on our labels?

That sounds like common sense to me and we are happy to do it.

I do wonder though, why would a small producer be required to have their farm name and address on the label?

Do you see a farm name on a pack of meat you get from the grocery store? You may see "Tyson" on the label but there are thousands of Tyson farms each with their own unique farm name.

I wonder why...

If a stranger handed you a piece of meat and told you he didn't know where it came from, how the animal was raised, or what it was fed.

Would you eat it?

One trick we have learned to help when loading the pigs is to spend time with them.

It makes them alot easier to load!

One downside to a bulk feeder is that you are not out there with a bucket every day getting them used to coming to you. We take them table and garden scraps when we have them and make sure to go out there to pet them and get them used to us.

If they are terrified of you, they will not come near you when you are trying to load them and will run every time you move.

Pigs are notoriously hard for most people to load, especially when first starting out.

We have had plenty of adventures and still have a stubborn pig here and there.

We have had to get creative over the years and thankfully have been able to eventually get them all loaded.

Not without calling them all kinds of names first of course! 🤣

If you have pigs you are having a hard time loading, reach out to us! I am more than happy to help however I can.
