Update for Thursday, July 9, 2026

The patch is now returning to its regularly scheduled programming!

We'll open at 7 AM, please arrive by 7 PM if you are planning for an evening pick. While the field has dried out, shoes that can get wet and buckets or bowls from home are still recommended, at least if you come right away in the morning as there are a few spots that are still a bit soft.

Prepicked orders are being shuffled around so please be patient with us while we get caught up. Losing a day due to weather really does mess things up on the backend and we want everyone to get their orders, but things may need to shift.

Patch address is 12629 30th Street, Brainerd

Cash, card, and venmo accepted.

OUTDATED POST

Wednesday, July 8, 9:55 AM Update

The field has not dried up much and is still VERY soggy. There are some places with standing water in the aisles.

The patch will remain closed for the day. We expect to reopen tomorrow, July 9, but please check back after 8 PM this evening for confirmation.

All prepicked orders for today will be pushed to another day this week. πŸŒΏπŸ’§πŸŒ»πŸŽ‰

OUTDATED POST, please see newer post for Update

Update Wednesday July 8, 6:15 AM

Anyone want to wear their swimsuit and pick on a floatie?? No? Probably a good choice!

The patch will have a delayed opening today and will open at 10 AM. It will still be wet so please dress appropriately with mud boots or shoes that can get wet. Buckets or bowls from home are strongly advised. At this time, we anticipate no change to picking days or times later in the week.

If you were on our prepicked berry list for today, your order will be pushed to tomorrow.

We expect to pick through the weekend and into early next week but will update as the season begins to wrap up.

Tuesday, July 7, 10 PM Update for Wednesday

We are aware that it looks like a lot of rain is headed our way overnight. If things are really soggy in the morning, we may postpone opening to let the field dry up a bit prior to people coming to pick.

We will post here and update voicemail by 6:30 AM with an update. Please do not text asking if we are open or not - please wait until 6:30 to call and listen to the voicemail or check here. You will call Gretchen's number at 2183307058. We may update sooner but it will be no later than that. If we are open for picking, boots or shoes that can get wet and buckets/bowls from home will be strongly recommended!

Pre-picked orders that are scheduled for tomorrow will get bumped to another day if we are unable to pick in the morning, due to weather.

Until morning.... stay dry, folks!

Reminder for Saturday, July 4th: we will open at 7 AM and remain open for arrivals until 1 PM. If you are here by 1, you may pick as long as you like, please just no new entries after that.

We will reopen for our usual hours at 7 AM Sunday, July 5th. We plan to be open daily for the remainder of the season and unless otherwise indicated in a new post, you may arrive until 7 PM. You may pick later than 7, just need new patch entries after 7 PM. IF we are need to close due to being picked out (HIGHLY unlikely) or weather, a new post will be made and voicemail will be updated. Pick your own berries are $3.40/lb

We are still taking orders for pre-picked berries but the list is quite long; if you have someone who can pick for you or you are able to, it may be quicker for you to get them that way. To get on the list please send a FB message, call, or text (preferred) to Gretchen at 218-330-7058 with your first/last name, the quantity you'd like, and any days that do NOT work. Same day orders are not currently feasible due to the length of the list but that may change early next week. Pre-picked full boxes (2 ice cream pails, 10 lbs) are $46 and half flats (1 ice cream pail, 5 lbs) are $23. Individual quarts are $6.

The address to the patch is 12629 30th Street, Brainerd. We accept cash, card, and Venmo. We expect to be picking now until approximately July 10 or 12, weather dependent. Text will always be the best way to reach us as calls are nearly impossible to answer during this time.

We hope to see you in the patch!

Lost and Found Post:

This pretty bracelet was found in the patch on Tuesday, June 30th. I'm sure there is some little girl (or adult, if you're as obsessed with berry things as Gretchen is...) missing this and we'd love for her to get it back. If it belongs to a berry helper that you brought with, please reach out so we can figure out a way to get it back to that helper! Text Gretchen at 218-330-7058 or respond here to claim it. If not claimed by the end of the season.... you will likely find Gretchen modeling it around town when she shops. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Ž

Multiple times each year, we get asked "what's the most someone has picked" and "what's the biggest box you've ever weighed?"

While I can't remember off the top of my head the largest total quantity anyone has picked, aside from remembering it was over 120 lbs in a day (a group of Amish women who made jams, jellies, and pies to sell - and they came a couple of times!)...

I can tell you that today.... TODAY.... we hit a new record high box. The previous record was just over 18 lbs. The box today.... SMASHED that record! I'm not sure about you, but I don't think that box could hold a single berry more!

Might as well do a picking update, as long as we're ogling over yummy berries... The patch will be open daily at 7 AM through the end of the season, unless we have bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances. If you plan to pick late, please arrive by 7 PM. We accept card, cash, and venmo for payment.

If you would like to place a prepicked order, we are still taking them. Just please know that there's quite a list and we cannot promise the day they will be available to pick up. We can try our best but if you have the ability to pick or have someone who can pick for you, that MIGHT get you berries quicker than waiting for your turn on the list, at least for the next few days. Please text Gretchen at 218-330-7058 or send us a FB message with name, quantity you'd like, and if there are any days that do NOT work for you. Thanks for your patience as you wait for your berries!

Monday, 8 PM Picking Update for Tuesday, June 30!

The patch WILL be open at 7 AM on Tuesday. We have the majority of the patch ripe or close to it and do not anticipate being picked out moving forward, but it

We are still taking orders for pre-picked berries. Please check out our website or previous posts for information to get on the pre-picked list. It's a very long list so please be patient, if you are on it. We will reach out to you when your berries are ready to pick up. http://www.nelsonberries.com/pre-picked-strawberries.html

Patch address is 12629 30th Street, Brainerd. Payments accepted are cash, credit/debit, and venmo. Have other questions, please check out our website! http://www.nelsonberries.com/home.html

We look forward to seeing you in the patch!

(Photo of what the patch looked like at one point on Saturday, though this photo doesn't even begin to do justice to what it looked like at the peak of the day. The "lake" that you see at the bottom and middle of the photo is new strawberry plants for next year, growing on UV Biodegradable plastic.)
