Very busy calving season with a few hiccups. Pic of the first red calf of the season. (Beefmaster influence). Her mother gives new meaning to “that bitch’llgitcha”!” Terminology only cow people understand.

Grinding some of the ear corn we raised last summer to feed the old cows and steers. Not the easiest way but our cattle fatten very well on it. 3300lbs of ear corn minus most of the shucks, 600lbs of soy bean meal, and 100lbs of a vitamin/mineral pack with rumensin. Brings the protein to nearly 14%. With all the 10% protein hay they can eat they are doing well.

Th 2025 corn harvest is in in the books. It was a tough year; sometimes to hot, sometimes to dry, varmint and deer damage, corn borer issues, cows got into one field. Still 150-175 bushel per acre. Very thankful.

Our annual cattle working, which includes preg check(ultrasound) routine vaccination plus a 3 way pinkeye, wormer and a few castrations. We had a 100% pregnancy rate this year which tells me our nutrition and herd health program is on track. Because of some anaplasmosis concerns our vet suggests we switch to a mineral with low dose of CTC. I don’t have pics of the crew here are some of the cleanup.
