Authenticity is best word to describe this magic corner of Málaga. Antigua Casa de Guardia started in 1840 and is the oldest winery in the province, and it’s tavern still operates in the city.
Another room where time unwinds, and you step into a space that offers relief from the sun and a connection with history.
You know we love vermut at MCNYC, but here they make wines of various types, specializing in wines made from Pedro Ximenez and Muscat.
Various types of wines - not just vermut - ranging from sweet to dry.
Of course, it’s a standing bar - there are no seats - and they write your tab in chalk on the wooden counter as you enjoy, erasing with a rag when you’re done. You can see the wear down the center of the counters after decades of drinking…

We love our vermut, but the wines they serve have a broader range. If you’re looking to cool down - get the vermut.
And the characters that work here are magnificent people, as much a part of the place as the barrels that line the wall. Authenticity so deep, it sends you to another era.
