Taste the very best from our family of farmers and producers. Established in 2003, Bedford Cheese Shop is a neighborhood store based on old-world ideals and loyalty to our family of local and international food producers. We are a small, independently run business dedicated to traditions of the culinary and agricultural world. We work directly with farms in order to hand-select cheeses at their pe

ak. Our constantly evolving selection is an homage to seasonality and traditions that date back centuries. Our small staff of knowledgeable cheesemongers are happy to tell the stories behind each cheese and provide you with the highest quality products available. In 2012, we opened our second location in the Gramercy area of lower Manhattan. Our shop on Irving Place includes three aging facilities, and an education and event space - the Homestead. Proud of our focus on individualized, education-based customer service, we invite you to join us and learn about what we have to offer. Come and taste our cheeses, take a class with us, or just admire what we have to offer.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closing of Bedford Cheese Shop at 67 Irving Place in New York City, effective mid-June.

Bedford Cheese Shop first opened in 2003, and we have proudly served the Gramercy Park neighborhood since opening this location nearly 14 years ago. This decision has not been made lightly—it comes after careful consideration and deep reflection. Unfortunately, we can no longer operate out of our current space, as the building is set to undergo an extensive, multi-year renovation. This challenge, coupled with other forces outside our control—rising costs of doing business in New York City, increasing prices of products and supplies, and broader economic uncertainty—has made a path forward unfeasible at this time.

Still, we know that change is a constant, and with every challenge comes the possibility of new beginnings. For now, closing the Shop is a necessary step that will give us the space and time to reassess and reimagine what the next chapter of Bedford Cheese Shop might look like.

We offer our deepest gratitude to our remarkable team of cheesemongers who have shared their knowledge and passion so generously, to our loyal customers whose continued support has sustained us through the years, and to the dedicated artisans whose exceptional products have filled our shelves. We are endlessly thankful and inspired by you all.

Please stop by to see us in the coming weeks if you can!

With Love,
Christina, Samantha & All of Us at Bedford Cheese Shop

We are kicking off our 2025 Monger Monday series! Please join us on Monday, February 3rd at 8:00pm for a screening of “Shelf Life”. We are honored to show Ian Cheney’s documentary which was featured in the Tribeca Film Festival last year! All cheese professionals are welcome (and please feel free to bring a +1 and make it a night out)!

“Shelf Life” launches with an unusual premise: might spending time among people who age cheese yield insights about what it’s like for humans to grow old? A peripatetic journey to far-flung, unexpected locations - from Japan to Tbilisi - provides an immersive culinary and temporal experience. At the heart of the film are the people we meet along the way - cheesemakers, mongers, and librarians whose perspectives on decay and dissolution both charm and haunt.

We hope you will join us! An RSVP is required as space is limited: [email protected].

Stop by the Shop tomorrow between noon and 3pm as Jessica Kesselman of Full Shelf Foods will be sampling Tête de Moine!!

This AOP certified cheese is produced in the mountainous Jura region of Switzerland. Aged for 75 days, Tête de Moine has distinctive flavor indicative of the mixture of grass and herbs eaten by the cows. Jessica will create beautiful “rosettes” with the cheese; shaved floral presentation enhances the flavor and texture. Not to be missed! We hope to see you!! 🦃🧡🧀
