Want-Not Farm

Want-Not Farm Want-Not Farm. A little farm in Brunswick Maine, next to Thomas Point Beach. Garden Fresh Vegetables Why “Want-Not Farm you ask? The name stuck.

When we bought this place next to Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick Maine we had a lot of work building up the hard packed clay soil in an old neglected horse paddock to make it into productive gardens. We used everything we could get our hands on (for free!) to hand-build the soil, from grass clippings to composted leaves and sea weed, to the waste from our cider pressings. A visiting Girl Scout le

ader asked about our recycling practices and how we never let anything go to waste. She exclaimed “You’re sort of a waste-not, want-not farm”. Our first “garden” was a five gallon bucket on an apartment porch in the city back in the 70’s – we got a few cherished potatoes out of it! Our gardening efforts grew and grew even in the city, where we devoted ourselves to “Square Foot” gardening – intensively planted and tended little urban plots (even container gardens) that produced a lot in a small space. When we moved to the country we still treated every square foot of our soil as a precious commodity, and by keeping our soil rich and healthy produced bountifully from even modest garden spaces. It’s almost whimsical to call our few acres a farm, but we provide garden fresh vegetables, eggs, honey and home made goods to our neighbors and visitors year round, all from our own little gardens and other local farms. We still treat every square foot as a precious gift to be tended with great care, knowing that by putting back into the soil more than we take out we will pass on a wholesome legacy to future generations.

What's New at Want-Not Farm?

Though it has been a few years since Want-Not farm has had a retail operation we still refer to out little place on the coast of Maine as Want-Not farm and our family and friends remember fondly the golden days of "life on the farm".

The big news is that we are selling our old dream and moving on to a new dream to be grandparents living next to our daughter, her husband and our precious Elanor (2-1/2 years old) and Dirk (our yearling!) in the mountains of Pennsylvania.

I like to think I have a pretty good sense of what will freeze well and what won’t. So you could have knocked me over with a spatula when I discovered, during prep for my recent freezer meal party, that twice-baked potatoes freeze beautifully and heat up perfectly. I had no idea! Twice-baked potat...

Here's why this is an asinine meme of misinformation. Please share.
a) Define "corporate farm." A farm that's legally incorporated & runs it's affairs as a business? Why is that a bad thing?
b) "Toxic food?" Humans are living longer than ever and food is safer than at any other time in human history.
c) "No more pesticides" while railing against genetically engineered food is ignorance personified..... GMO crops allow us to use less pesticides.
d) "No More Monsanto?" It's happening - they're merging with Bayer (The company who gave you aspirin) for $60B. Yep, Monsanto who "controlled the world's food" is only 3/4 the size of Starbucks.
