We’re so excited to be hosting Joel Salatin this summer on our farm and at an evening event in Nampa! Wednesday, June 24th, Joel will be at our farm for a pasture walk, lunch and Q&A session. That night, he’ll be at the Nampa Civic Center inspiring us all to think differently about our food systems, hearing his perspective on farming, and advocating for regenerative agriculture with his humor, wit, and practical wisdom.

Whether you are a consumer, gardener, homesteader, farmer, or simply someone who wants to understand where your food comes from, this will be a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the most influential thinkers in the local food movement.

Tickets are on sale now. https://mcintyrefamilyfarms.com/store?q=salatin

We’ll take it- the rain, that is! It won’t be long before our new batch of laying hens are out of the trailers and on pasture. Right now they are learning what to call home. This is so they will lay inside and also come up and roost here at sundown. We lock them in every night because of predator pressure and so that it easy to move them to a new spot with fresh grass on pasture each morning before we let them out.

Baby ducks rate high on the cuteness chart. Come visit them and all the other animals at our Spring Field Day event on Saturday, April 25th. Wagon rides, collecting eggs, animals, lunch, baby ducks, turnip blooms and more! https://mcintyrefamilyfarms.com/store?q=field

We have worked hard over the past year and a half to absorb as much of the cost pressure in the cattle market as possible. I'm sure you've seen beef in the news and prices rising in the supermarkets. Beef is at it's lowest inventory level since 1951 driven by long-term drought, high production costs, and ongoing herd liquidation.

Currently calves that we used to partner to buy at $1500 a piece have risen to $2800 and up to $3400 for the same weight per calf in just two years. We've held out as long as we can, but can no longer stay sustainable for our family or to continue to provide living wages for our employees and their families at these margins. As always, we want to keep prices within reach of as many people as possible. We are targeting less than a 5 percent increase across the board. Some items will see modest adjusments, but some cuts will stay the same or barely move as we are committed to use and sell the whole animal, not just popular parts and pieces.

Hit the Farm Store up this weekend! We’ve got everything you’ll need and have done a little rearranging and adding to make things easier to see and find! All the grass fed beef you could want, pasture raised eggs and pork, and we still have plenty of the delicious chicken leg quarter (that is the THIGH- everyone’s favorite- and drum attached) to grab, plus you can stock up and save with bundles . We have raw milk, kefir, butters, cheeses, chocolate milk, sour cream, yogurts, seasonings, seasonal produce, local root beer, salsa, a fresh batch of sourdough tortillas, tallow cream and more! We are open today 9-5 and Saturday 9-3. Go around back and visit our “petting zoo” while you’re here. See you soon!
